This & That

I have spent a lot of today looking at old photographs and playing with the scanner. I finally suceeded in getting something scanned into my computer and, even more importantly, being able to find it! Then I played around with Corel Painter. This is my younger son when he was considerably younger than he is now! I have endeavored to make it look like a watercolor but without too much success I fear. I need more practice. His hair which was reddish-gold then has now turned brown but his beard is that color now which is interesting.

Today I filled the bread machine with the ingredients for a loaf. The basic recipe calls for a cup of water and three cups of flour, and of course, sugar, oil, salt and yeast. I had been adding half a cup of a seedy-grainy  mixture to the recipe but today, for some reason, I only used two and a half cups of flour and the half cup of the seedy-grainy mixture. When I came to check the dough after the rising time and to take out the paddle, I noticed that the dough was more sticky than it usually was and then I remembered that I usually used three cups of flour! It all actually came out fairly well. It was not a dense loaf which is the kind that Fred likes, but, he says it makes very good toast!  It is also good with butter and Marmite!

Fred and I went to  the diner last night–yes, again!  One of his daughters gave him a bunch of gift certificates for his birthday and we are enjoying using them. Anyway, when we got back, the Wacom pad had disappeared  from the table on the deck. I was sure that the freecycle second person on the list had finally picked it up and this morning I got an email saying it was her.

I watched the beginning of the new season of Project Runway last night. They look like an interesting bunch….

I just read that Kindle is putting a Mitch Albom grad speech on sale for 99 cents. The money will go to a charity in Det. They are test marketing some things other than books. Sounds good to me! What do you think? any interest in things other than books? be well…dan The breadmaker sounds good, might be a used one in my future…not, I am getting rid of stuff, I hope…

My boyfriend was WAY cute when he was little. 🙂

Another cyberfriend suggested I use freecycle to clear out some of the teaching material. I will have to meet people. I hope they like what I can give them. Living in an apartment I cannot just leave anything by the door – how would they get into the building? What if the super decides this is garbage? All sorts of considerations

Your son looks so precious! Good job on the bread! Sometimes happy accidents do happen!

July 17, 2008

Your son was so cute. Have you been making bread all along. You haven’t mentioned it for quite awhile.

Your son was a cutie, that’s for sure. I see what you mean about the “success” of the watercoloring technique. It kind of makes him look distorted or something. Nice attempt, though.

Your son was a very cute little boy! :o) !! hugs, Weesprite

Your son was a cute boy!

I was very sad to be flipping channels and see that I had MISSED the start of project runway! I had no idea…the way they promote that show, i can’t understand how ha ha

The picture is cute. 🙂 My dad was the same way, had brown hair and a reddish beard. 😛 You’re right, the new season of project runway does look like an interesting group. I thought for sure that the guy who has the tanning obsession would be out, but it was a hard choice between those couple of looks in the bottom.

I watched Runway too. I must say that the garbage bag dress was a real horror. I don’t think that she’s going to last long. And Tanning Boy is — urk. That -thing- he put together was pretty well, indescribable… It was just ugly. But I did like the yellow dress, and the one made with plastic — now that was creative!

Mmm, fresh bread with butter & marmite! You’ve inspired me to attempt to make bread. ryn: Oooh, My Little Ponies are the greatest! I’m glad to hear that your son’s partner loves them as well! I think it’s such a huge craze among women our age because My Little Pony was one of the most popular girl’s toys of the 1980s, so we all grew up loving them and now that we’re all adults with jobsand money, we have fun spending extortionate sums of money on our Pony Collections. Hasbro has finally begun to realise that the little girls from the 1980s have grown up, so now they’re making all sorts of special ponies for the adults. I’m planning to write a long entry about My Little Pony soon. How do you like Kindle? I saw it on Amazon, is it useful and easy to use?

Awww, what a great pic of your son. My hair used to be that color too. It’s changed so much though that when I see friends and relatives I haven’t see in years they always ask me what happened to my hair? LOL Hugs, M

Everytime you talk about the bread machine I miss mine. Mostly the smell, I guess. But the final result as well. Oh, while I remember, you gave me the name of a site once for photo editing….infra somehing…. without MY computer I can’t find it. Could you send me the info on that again please? Love ya! ~M

ryn: Thank you so much 🙂 ‘Our Children’ is my favorite duet that we sang. LOL about the headphones! That’s fantastic.

The picture is neat looking. I love getting gift certificates for eating out. My students give them to me.
