This Afternoon

On my afternoon walk, Fred asked me if I would go to the drug store and pick up one of his prescriptions. I didn’t realize I was so well known there until the young lady behind the counter said, before I opened my mouth, “Fred R’s prescription, right?”

This afternoon when I went out for my second walk, I was just going past the National Guard Armory when I was approached by a young college-age lady in Army fatigues asking me if I had a cell phone she could borrow! She had left her backpack inside and gone off somewhere with her squad for PE not realizing that when she got back, everything she owned– including her cell phone–was locked up inside. Fortunately, she had her sergeant’s cell-phone number and she told him, almost in tears, that she had to have her backpack tonight because she had a test she had to study for this weekend. Apparently he was going to come back and unlock it for her because she finished by thanking him and saying she would be in her truck in the back parking lot. She apologized profusely for using my phone but I felt good being able to help her like this. I asked her if she needed me to wait with her but she said he was about ten minutes away and she would be all right.

Fred decided to cook a whole lot of hamburger patties today at about 4 pm and so I didn’t have to think about what I was going to eat tonight.

Until later…

Could I please borrow a cup of your energy? I seem to be out! I’m very proud of you for continuing to walk as the days get colder.

hi 🙂

December 4, 2004

That was nice of you. I think you look like someone I might approach if I were in a similar bind – you are trustworthy. We had hamburgers tonight too! They were really good. 🙂

once in a while, it pays to have a cell phone. So far, I’ve managed to resist getting one, tho. Good for you, helping out. AND WALKING!

so glad you had a cell phone so you help that young lady. it’s a sign of the times that people just assume everyone has a cell phone! good for you for walking in the cold, though i know it’s gonna get colder thru the winter. take care,

I’m glad you helped the lil army gal. Hearing your description of her reminded me of my daughter Carrie. She always has to study too, and would probably get into a similar predicament. Happy day to you today, too! Weesprite

It does feel good to help out a stranger, doesn’t it? 🙂

December 5, 2004

In these days, not a lot of people would have the courage to ask a stranger for help. Yet 25 years ago, one would have thought nothing of it. Makes you feel good to help, doesn’t it?

December 5, 2004

That was very nice of you to help that young lady out.

Sometimes it’s really good not to have to think about dinner.

December 5, 2004

It’s always a great feeling to help someone out in need. It probably took everything that girl had to ask you to use your phone. That was so nice of you. You have done your good deed for the day. Congrats!

mmmmm hamburgers….. You did a very good deed! *huggs* I think you need a puppy….

December 8, 2004

That sounds like something I would do, on your end and on her end! I’ve lent my cellphone to a stranger in need before, but I’ve also done stupid things like locked my keys in my car and needed a way to call someone!
