Think Earwax!!
OK, folks! This is the day to send me positive thoughts about ear wax! At 10:20 this morning I am having my hearing checked. I know I have some hearing loss because I don’t understand what people on the TV are saying unless I turn the sound up very loud or use closed captions {which is my preference.} I also have difficulty with people who speak very softly to me especially if they speak fast. I would be thrilled to be told the problem is a build up of earwax but in all honesty, I am feeling that it is more likely to be an age-related deterioration in my hearing. I am prepared to wear hearing aids if called for. What I am really worried about is paying for said hearing aids if I have to have them. From what I understand, Medicare will pay for the testing but not for the hearing aids. Oh, well, "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof" got me through two different cancers! I will deal with this when I have to.
Total change of subject here. One of my noters said that she gave up on juicing because the cleaning/clearing up afterwards was onerous. Yes, i agree, it is annoying but so far I am doing pretty well by soaking the parts of the juicer immediately — even before I drink the juice. I put all parts, except the bit with the motor in it, in a sink full of hot water and detergent and leave them there for a short while {although I have been known to leave them there until the water is cold!} Then I rinse them all with hot water and the sprayer. Sometimes I put them in the dishwasher in the top rack if I have enough dirty dishes to run the dishwasher. If not, I put them in the drying rack. The hardest part to clean is the basket into which the fruit drops and where it is separated into juice and pulp. This basket has a very small mesh and it needs to be scrubbed well to get all the pulp out. The brush that comes with the juicer is useless. I use The OXO Good Grips Deep Cleaning Brush Set { which can be found at Amazon, of course } which works really well. I put a little detergent on the brush and it takes me about 2 minutes to scrub inside and outside the basket. Then I use hot water and the sprayer, rinse it well, and put it to dry. Oh, and I follow the suggestion of the instruction book which suggests putting a plastic bag in the place where the pulp collects. Since I throw the pulp away at this time, I use a plastic grocery bag which I can easily pick up and deposit in the trash leaving the pulp collector completely clean. When and if I find a way to reuse the pulp, I will put a food-safe plastic bag there instead of a shopping bag.
