The Rest of the Day
I got about half-way through my first draft of what will eventually be the oral report and went out to read it to Fred so he could time me. I think I am including too much since she only wants us to take two minutes. However, Fred made a good suggestion. He said to go ahead and finish putting in everything I want to put in and then after timing it, decide what to omit. There is no doubt that it is much easier to cut down than it is to pad! {Not that I have ever had that problem. Most of the time, I can write about interminably about anything!}
Now, tomorrow, I must continue with the five-page written paper and with the oral report draft. But this time, I will begin with the oral report. This is due on Tuesday of next week and there is no doubt that what I do first gets the best of my attention. Gradually as the day progresses my energy and intelligence leak away! I have not yet got to the tidying up of my portfolio which will be inspected on Tuesday. I am not too worried about this. I DO have everything I am supposed to have except that it is not all in the right folders.
One little amusing thing I found today. I was checking the meaning of the word "che" this morning since I have a tendency to leave it out and found a list of phrases where it is used. This one really amused me. It said : Acqua per bambini che allevia il dolore di stomaco. I am guessing at "dolore" but I associate it with the English word "dolorous" which means sadness. And what IS this water that will alleviate the sadness of babies’ stomachs? Why, what we would call "gripe water", the stuff that one gives to a baby to encourage burping!
I didn’t get to walk this morning because Leslie, my walking buddy, called and said she was driving home a co-worker who was nervous about driving in snow. So, this afternoon I about froze my fingers off going walking down to the library. Yes, I was wearing gloves but it was so cold I really needed two layers of gloves. I have some thinsulate-lined mittens somewhere…
Christmas music is coming from the stereo, Fred is making chopping noises in the kitchen and braised pork smells are coming from there. I just went in and got a mandarin orange to tide me over until the pork is done… Ok, just got the "Time to eat!’ call…
Until later….
I LOVE men who make choppy noises in the kitchen!

Heh. Reminds me of the old saying — You can call me anything but “late for supper.”

I’ve been eating Clementine oranges lately and they are so yummy! I would love to convince my hubby to cook every now and then. He’s really good at it, but hasn’t done it since mid-summer.

I was writing you a note, but the page crashed. Anyway, I’m glad school is going well. But by the way, have you seen the 1965 Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Leonard Cohen? It’s disappointing because of no music, but his comic routine about the mental hospital is so funny. Do you suppose if I went to Los Angeles, you know … I enjoy your photographs and wish you happy holidays.

I don’t like gloves, and my hands usually still get cold even when I have them on. That is another reason I love wearing a size L men’s coat….the sleeves are long enough so I can keep my hands drawn up in them! And there, they stay warm! I hope you have a good day! hugs, Weesprite

Good luck with your report! I have far less trouble presenting anything orally, than I do in writing!

I’ve never heard the phrase “gripe water.” Is it an English thing? Actually, I didn’t know there was something you could give babies to encourage burping. Wow, I’m glad I don’t have to make anyone burp anymore.

I have Christmas tunes playing now too. I have chicken thawing, but Hubs will have to cook it when he gets home from visiting a friend.
