The Impatiens Are in the Boxes!

Yesterday I went to the Really Big plant nursery and finally, got my impatiens. This nursery is HUGE and I had a lovely wander around before I finally tracked down the impatiens. A little way down the road from where my sister lived in England, there is also a huge plant nursery and when we went there, we always had a cuppa tea at their little restaurant. It amused me to see this nursery  has a little cafe, too. They also had a very nice area with climbing frames and slides for the kids. When I found the impatiens, there was also  something I had never seen before called Brazilian impatiens. These plants didn’t look like impatiens at all in the size and color of the leaves but the flowers were impatiens only bigger. I was going to get enough for one box when I saw the price. Three dollars and some change for one plant.  And these are annuals, people, not perennials! These people guarantee their plants for three months but even that didn’t prepare me for being charged a bit over $50 when I got to the register! I remember I went somewhere else last year and was a bit miffed that it was over $30 then! Anyway, the plants are in and I will take photographs. The boxes don’t look as nice as they will later on when the plants  are more thoroughly settled in but it will be nice to have a set of before-and-after pictures.

Then, since I was in the Big Box Store area, I went to Walmarts and looked at summer clothes. What is it with these pants that come to the middle of the knee! There were racks and rack and racks of them and they are the ugliest things I have ever seen. Back in the days when I was much younger, I used to wear capris because it was the fashion, but I never liked them. Now I am older and wiser and I don’t give a damn if these Uglies are in style! I will not wear them! I finally found a rack of shorts the length I like and bought a couple of them and a red shirt. And now, of course, since I have new shorts, it is chilly and 55 degrees this morning and rain is threatening. It is the weekend for the Burlington Marathon and those people will get drenched.

Hmm, having said that, I don’t know if the marathon is today or tomorrow. And I am glad that by sheer chance this is not my massage weekend. I normally drive through the area where they will be running part of the marathon and that means I would have to go via the interstate and Shelbourne Rd, a route I no longer take because there is far to much traffic. I prefer to leave 10 minutes earlier and go a longer way to avoid having to cut across two lines of heavy and fast moving traffic to get where I want to go!

Much to my surprise, Fred was up before me this morning and I got up about 6:30! He usually is up until the small hours and then gets up about 10:30-ish. When he gets up about the same time as I do, I tease him that he might actually be turning into a normal person, sleep-wise!

I was rather astounded by how much I spent on flowers this year, too, but it IS nice to have them! I’m glad you found such a lovely big nursery to shop in! hugs, Weesprite

fred just likes to keep you on your toes!!! for some reason, i prefer to plant seeds. i know there’s hardly time for them to grow in this climate but i like to watch the seeds turn into plants. would be better if i lived in the south. plants are so expensive these days. wonder if it has anything to do with the price of gasoline? take care,

Yeah, on the flowers! I like impatiens, too. Clothes are sore spot for me these days. Mainly, I need to lose these last ten pounds to wear some beautiful things. Sigh!

I thought plants were much more expensive this year too. I’d love to have a little greenhouse to start my own.

With those prices I understand why people opt for the perenials.

Hahaha…It’s funny how we’re all slaves to fashion when we’re young.
