Technology Strikes Again

Verizon has been sold to Fair Point. I just hope they didn’t pay a lot for it because Verizon sucks, or at least their help people do. {That would be the ones in India} Anyway, this means we Verizon netmail peons have to change our email addresses from Name@verizon.net to Samename@myfairpoint.net. {You just wouldn’t believe how many times I had the almost irresistable urge to write "@myfairlady.net"!} So, I call an 800 number this morning to get help setting up my POP mail account.

Much to my surprise {and pleasure} I wasn’t kept waiting listening to crappy music and being assured that my call was IMPORTANT to them. In fact, I think the phone rang three times and a Perky Person who wasn’t in India replied. She asked what mail program I used and when I said, "Thunderbird," she said, "Oh, that’s Firefox, right?’ I patiently said, "Firefox is the browser and Thunderbird is the mail program." She said, "Thunderbird, thunder… oh, here it is!"  After that, her directions were very good and it was all set up so I am now Oldnickname@myfairpoint.net. However, much to my annoyance, I cannot use it. It keeps telling me that the myfairpoint.net server is not working. Now, I will look over the brochure tomorrow but I THOUGHT it said that it started on the first of January and email from the old address would be forwarded to us at the new email address until the end of the month. After the end of the month, old addresses disappear… I could look at the brochure tonight but all energy and intelligence has drained out of my head by 4 pm most days, so I will read and sort out tomorrow. I can still read my email at the Verizon netmail site… And I will call the 800 number again tomorrow and get myself sorted out.

I went for a walk round the block in the snow this morning. Actually, it was not easy because I was walking in the slush on the road since the sidewalks hadn’t been cleared. I really didn’t enjoy it as much as I had hoped to because I had to keep my eyes down watching where I put my feet which isn’t the way I prefer to walk. Anyway, I got out for about 15 minutes. Snow and freezing rain tomorrow so it will be a treadmill day.

Well, this is interesting information about Verizon. I wonder how it will affect my boss’s cell phones.

frustration thy name is technology!

That whole e-mail thing is confusing. I think you should print your addresses out just in case you lose them. Thank you again for your suggestion about using headphones while watching the tv show on my laptop. It makes for a remarkable difference.

It has been so long since we had to change our email addresses, I would have difficulty with it, too. I think pbreader has a good suggestion about saving your email addresses, just in case.

I don’t enjoy walking when I have to be so careful that I can’t enjoy THE WALK, either! Gee, we are having email troubles too. I downloaded and installed Eudora for my email, but this is day two and it STILL won’t work because apparently my server is STILL having some kind of problem….????? They need to get their %$#& together! I wouldn’t mind having a Perky Person to talk to about it, either. The last one I spoke to wasn’t very Perky! :oO !! hugs, Weesprite

I am heartily sick of the bad weather. Today the sun is trying to stay out and I hope it gets rid of some of the ice around here. Looking forward to springtime, I am…

Technology always confounds me. When I don’t really “need” something, it works just great. When I’m wanting or needing something, it’s got some glitch.
