Sunday Evening
Listen! Are you listening carefully? What you are hearing is the silence after all the company has gone home…
Fred has coped with two sets of company very well today. First there was Bill who was Fred-minding while I went out for my massage. Then his daughter D., her husband and her 17 year old son came over for three hours. They are nice people. E. is his favorite son-in-law and the 17 year old boy has turned from a whiney spoiled brat into a nice young man. He loves his daughter D., but even she admits she talks too much!
Justin, the son, hooked up my DVD player in a flash. At first we could get no sound but just before I was about to suggest it, he unplugged and replugged, and Lo! Black Adder with sound! Mind you, I discovered I really didn’t like Black Adder as much as I used to. Perhaps it was because I was watching it with a person I had to explain things to all the time. After one episode, I turned it off and I don’t think I will watch the rest. What I AM looking forward to is finishing up the first DVD of “House of Cards” and watching the second.
Tonight we have a winter storm warning and we have snow. The street plows will be out tonight and I tomorrow should be able to get to the grocery store for what we need. We are not totally out of anything, but Fred is drinking a lot of milk and if he will drink it, he should have it.
Oh, while I am thinking about it, he stood up and started for the bathroom and took three confident steps holding on to nothing before he began to feel a bit shaky and reached for his walker. I was delighted to see this happen. I worry in a way that all this care he is getting is encouraging him to not try to do things for himself but as I think of it, perhaps not. I think he really does want to get better. But, as I told him this evening, enjoy the ice cream and the ice water brought to your hand. The day will come as it used to be that if you want it, you will have to get it! LOL
Tomorrow’s list:
- walk but first, dig snow boots out of the closet
- wash dishes
- send back Black Adder to Netflix
- make a list of questions and comments for visiting nurse
- groceries? Depends on the state of the roads
- finish watching House of Cards
- enjoy a whole day when no one but the visiting nurse will be here!
Until later…
glad you got the DVD player working 🙂 Kids huh? They don’t need instructions. And I love snow… even though now I will have to walk more careful 🙂

Hooray for three steps! Small victories! We watched the Black Adder when it was on PBS. That guy (can’t remember his name–Mr. Bean) has SUCH bizarre sense of humor. I thought Black Adder was a bit too risque for my taste. LOL!
