“Stuff, Just Stuff”

I have spent the evening getting out Christmas decorations and the Christmas tree. We have always put it up on the corner of the table Fred has behind his computer. This would be the table covered with his stuff. He needs only to clean off a corner which is how I would tackle the job. He has to tackle the whole table–sorting, discarding and reorganizing. Do I need to say I have finished my rather slapdash decorating of the 3 ft tree and lighted it and am now waiting impatiently for the clear corner so I can get it off the dining table? Right-brain, left-brain and never the twain shall meet!

My second walk took me up to the drugstore in the falling snow in order to get some dark chocolate which they have on sale for ninety-nine cents a bar. I got the last two bars! I also got two more strings of colored light for the tree because they were on sale. This rather avoids the fact that I had put three strings on the tree already! I stopped by the house, dropped off my purse and the bag in the downstairs foyer and continued walking around the block. The snowflakes were large and wet, just touching my face and sticking to the grass but not to the sidewalk. On my way back, I stopped on a corner to cross a road and a lady called to me from her doorway and asked me to help her out to the road. She wanted to get the bus that was just coming down the road but because her walk was slushy, she didn’t trust herself to walk on it to get to the road. I helped her onto the bus too and I was glad that I am fit and active enough to walk where I need to go.

IPoddery: {with commentary since I don’t have much to write about.}

  • “We’ve Only Just Begun” Karen Carpenter This always reminds me of when our students “graduated” from seventh grade. We always made a big thing of this because the children moved to another school when they went to the 8th grade. They always got to choose their own theme song to sing and this one was the choice of several classes ove r the years.
  • “Rule Britannia” Broadside Band AND with ALL the words and all the verses! “Britains never never ever shall be slaves!” Good stuff!
  • “Cabin Down Below” Tom Petty His music was something my younger son introduced me to. In fact, J.? If you are looking for your Tom Petty CD, I have it . {oops!}
  • “Waters of March” Art Garfunkel This song was a good introduction to “train of thought” poems I had my students write every year.
  • “Cadgewith Anthem” Steeleye Span
  • “Bleeker Street” Simon and Garfunkel
  • “Imagine” Joan Baez. This was a song that was requested by a seventh grade student one year for their “graduation” song. The request was was turned down by the music teacher because a line in it says “and no religion, too.” She felt some of our parents would take offense. She was correct, but wouldn’t have stopped me.
  • “The Tower of Song” A weird Leonard  Cohen song sung by Robert Forster on a CD of Cohen songs called I’m Your Fan.
  • “If You Could Read My Mind” Gordon Lightfoot. I came across him accidentally when flipping channels years ago, and there he was on a concert on PBS. Next day, I went out and bought a couple of “Best of..” In fact, there is one of his CDs in my wish list on Amazon.
  • “Under African Skies” Paul Simon and someone who is female. Very easy and satisfactory harmony. {this means I can sing her part! LOL}
  • “Came So Far for Beauty” I think this is a Cohen song since the CD is called Famous Blue Raincoat {which is definitely is a Cohen song.} Hearing her sing with Cohen got me to buy a few of her CDs. I can recomment The Hunter.
  • “Her Mother’s Daughter” Dory Previn. A really thought-provoking song with a message.
  • “Canon in D ” by Pachelbel played here by the New Bach Collegium. Somewhere I have a whole CD with nothing but this piece of music with different interpretations including at least one {Shirley Bassy, I think} with words.
  • “The Black Freighter” song by Steeleye Span or, more truthfully, by the woman who sings with that group.

You sure do like a wide variety of tunes. I downloaded some of the songs you’ve talked about and didn’t care for a lot of them, but then you name others that I love. I think this is a cool thing–to open up your mind and love all kinds of music.

I have a lazy person’s Christmas tree. It’s small, artificial and contains fibre optic lights – so I don’t even need to decorate it. I’m going away for Christmas anyway. 🙂

you are far too organised, i’m still trying to arrange a house so I have somewhere to put up my tree

I think it’s a weird version of Tower of Song. I haven’t listened to his new album yet.

I’m glad to know that there are people out there who are nice just because. And not because they want something.

I can’t seem to get into Christmas this year…. Maybe it’s because I’m alone…I don’t know. I would be ever so much happier if it were all over and done with. Love ya! ~M

How much did you pay for your IPOD? Where did you buy it? I would like to get one eventually. I saw one at 300 – 20mg.

December 11, 2004

Heh. I love reading music lists where I know and like most of the songs. I don’t know too many huge Cohen or Simon & Garfunkel fans besides myself.

Don’t break my heart about the new album. I still have 258 songs on my iPod, and I need to double that.

You are so kind to people, Patrisha 🙂

I love that Maddy Prior song! It got me through some ugly hours at work, I can tell you. I do like your listening style. Did get to see Lightfoot perform once, and it was one of the best concerts ever.

I love your stories of the students and what they chose for their theme songs.

Of these, Pachelbel’s Canon is my favorite.

We have only just begun always reminds me of graduating from HS. Not sure why. Pretty sure it wasn’t out then but before or after. lol Once more, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I want to be you who helps at your age and not the woman who had to ask for help.

I think I would’ve been worried about going up to someones door. But that depends on where you live and I’m a scaredy chicken as it is 🙂

Canon in D with words? Hmm, not sure how I feel about that

Some great music there Best Wishes

I’m lazy about decorating, etc., also, as is everyone else in this house, so you can imagine what it looks like. The tree is beautiful, though! One bit of perfection amidst an otherwise totally cluttered house! I’m glad you were able to help that lady today too. Walking on ice and snow can be treacherous. Hey, I have “Best of Gordon Lightfoot” on my CD wish list this year! Hope I get it!

I enjoyed your list of songs, P. I know almost all of them. I’d have gone with Imagine, myelf. I really need to start walking again. Maybe you’ll inspire me!

“Waters of March” is one of my favorite songs, especially sung by Susannah McCorkle. I’ll have to find Garfunkle’s version.

I went topless once… Truth be told, the majority of the people at a nude beach area vastly unattractive (I’ve accidentally been to a few, the one last week was known in advance)… I think I’d do it if the guy would… But R never would… Good excuse, huh? Actually, I think I would though.

*huggs* I am hoping things are well, and ryn: for $1.13 gee, hmmm, I cannot even get two items at the dollar store. *bastards* Class action suits are only intended for the lawyer to get rich.

Found this website with an index of Yoga positions. Maybe you can just pick the ones that you mean. http://www.santosha.com/asanas/

RYN: Bunnies need hay/grass for their digestive system. They graze on it more or less. I need to get them some so they wont pull up my grass and be in the mud, again. That is why they were in the mud to begin with….they pulled up all of the grass under their cage.
