Stress & Me Plus Kindle Stuff

It is interesting and odd the effect that the stress of Fred’s illness stress is having on me.

For a long time I have been aware that I have more energy in the morning than in the afternoon or evening, and so I have made a point of doing what needs to be done, especially the jobs that require high energy, in the morning. Then I have pottered around through the rest of the day and gone to bed around 10 pm. These days, I have my usual morning energy maybe one day out of three or four. Mostly I have to force myself to get normal morning chores done. And I can’t stay up until 10 pm these days. Last night I made a big effort and stayed up until 9 PM. I woke at 5 AM which is marginally better than 3 or 4 am which is the hour the day begins when I go to sleep at 7 pm!

I really like this new router. This morning I realized that perhaps my Kindle could pick up our house wi/fi now. I couldn’t before– I think perhaps because of previous landlord Mike’s odd settings. I was lacking the latest update for the Kindle because it was only down loadable by wi/fi. I wasn’t really concerned by this because this was the update that allowed one to see page numbers of some books rather than {or along with?} locations and this seemed unimportant to me since mostly I look at the bar at the bottom of the page which tells me what percentage of the book I have read {seventy-one percent of the current book}. But I thought I would try it anyway. So, I brought in the Kindle, changed the setting to wi/fi rather than to 3G and let it sit until it went to sleep which is shown by the fact that a picture appears as a screen saver. After a while, the screen saver disappeared and I was informed on the screen that the Kindle was updating… Since not all books have the capacity to show page numbers, I don’t know yet whether or not the one I am currently rereading {C is for Corpse by Sue Grafton} will do that and, if it does, will I find that useful. The Kindle currently remembers where I stopped anyway so I don’t have to make a note of it.

OK, I have got to get a couple of things done before I set off to see Fred!

Love Sue Grafton. I own the dead-tree version of all except the latest. I must buy it because I can’t do without the whole collection. I hope the stress with Fred evens out soon. I think most of that kind of stress (besides the worrying) is the disruption in routine…having to go out of your way to do things that you normally wouldn’t be doing. It’s very wearing.

It must be really hard, all this that is going on with Fred. I feel for you. Are you going to want a Kindle Fire when they come out? I still have my 2nd generation Kindle and I <3 it but I really want a fire…

I’ll have to check my Kindle to see if I have the update. Hope Fred is feeling better.

Stress is very tiring….lots more tiring than we usually realize! hugs, Nicky

I agree. Stress throws me every now and then, and I am trying to learn how to reduce them to speed bumps rather than mountains to get over. Hope the visit with Fred goes well today.

That is the one thing about the Kindle that I am not fond of…I would like to see page numbers. This is only due to the fact that the books that I need to read for my English class I download instead of buying the “real” book. This comes in handy when I have to write the paper and then quote the book. Otherwise I could care less.

You’ve just answered one of the questions I had about the Kindle! I must admit my curiosity is increasing about it and I stopped and played about with one in TESCO’s the other day and that’s when it struck me – how do you know where you’ve got to when you fall asleep? What’s a Kindle equivalent of turning the corner of the page down? Now I know!
