Spending Money

I have just had a pot of home made yogurt with a banana sliced into it. It was delicious. I had forgotten how much I liked that stuff.

Yesterday Fred and I decided to go to Costco. But, since Fred needed insulin and Lipitor, we went to the drug store first. He parked and I went in. Now, this store has just changed to a Rite-Aid. When I went in yesterday, I picked up his previously ordered insulin and the Lipitor and then went to the front to check out because the screen on the new till in the pharmacy was not working. And, to my surprise, the young woman at the front of the store told me the cost of the drugs, specifically the Lipitor,  was $216! Ummm,. no! Fred’s medications are covered by the insurance he pays every month and the state of Vermont picks up the balance. Well, I wasn’t too surprised since this had happened once before but after checking with Fred, I decided not to wait for them to get the right number programmed into their computer because it took them an hour last time this happened, so we took the insulin and went off to Costco. {Fred called them last night and they have now got it right so I will walk up there today and get it.}

When we go to Costco, we usually go together, collect what we need and then  I am the one who stands in line because my legs are better than Fred’s. However, we decided that if the lines were too long, we would skip the whole thing. The lines were pretty long but we went to get the cheddar cheese and the feta cheese, looked around for yeast but couldn’t find it and went to get the less-salted potato chips. On the way we saw a pile of Roomba  floor sweepers and I said, "Oh, look! Roombas! Ive got one of those on my wish list!"

So, Fred bought me one! Nothing says I love you to the person responsible for floor cleaning than a Roomba!  It was the same model on my wish list, too, the fifth generation. I don’t like buying the "latest new thing’. I prefer to wait a while until the bugs have been worked out.  And we got to the check-out lines just as a new register was opened. Three out of the four people in front of me shot off to the new ly opened register leaving one man in front of me and he only had one thing to check out!

Next, despite the fact that we had been grocery shopping a few days ago, we decided to go to the supermarket which was very close to Costco. I thought I would get some yeast and Fred as usual, had a list. After a while in there, my back started to hurt so I got a bit irritable. Well, it was a combination of back hurting and the fact that I hate buying groceries! My back was hurting because I was walking with a lurch which puts an additional strain on my back. The thing is, I don’t lurch when I use the stick, but it is very hard to steer a cart with one hand when the other one is holding a cane.

Eventually we made it home and dragged ourselves and the groceries in {with a little help from our landlord who happened to be outside at the time.} I put the groceries away and collapsed on the bed with what felt like every muscle in my body hurting.

The Roomba is under the tree, I feel much better after a night’s sleep and I just realized this morning, I forgot the yeast!

It’s good to get things like that done. I know I always feel more accomplished. I don’t like shopping at all… but I do it so J won’t have to 🙂

I’m happy for you with your new Roomba, let us know how it works!

Uh…what’s a roomba? Is it one of those robot vacuum thingies?

I throw the cane into the cart and lean on that when shopping. At least when I hit the floor, the cart acts as a brake!

I bought one of those roomba things a couple of years ago and immediately returned it. My carpet is too deep or something; it wouldn’t move. How lucky that checkstand opened up just as you got there! Law of Attraction in action! 😀

Shopping can be so draining, but a Rumba, I’m envious. 🙂

I’m reading backwards, so already know that the Roomba didn’t work out so well. ** sigh ** That yeast just did not want to get purchased today. ** giggling **
