Some Thoughts

At three o’clock this morning and again at four I was woken by the symptoms of a urinary tract infection {UTI}. Fortunately, one can buy the cure over the counter these days and I actually had the one I bought before I went to Italy so I got up and dealt with it. Then, of course, I kept having to get up and pee so I haven’t had much sleep. I was going to call Beth and cancel my massage but I actually feel well enough to go now. Originally I had planned to go to the Saturdays Before Christmas craft fairs at a local building down by the river before the massage but I am going to cancel that. Next Saturday is the book club meeting and I can go to the craft thingy before that.

Fred wasn’t doing too well yesterday. He had a lot of pain in one leg when he walked. We are both hoping that it will be a bit better for him today. He was thinking arthritis since the pain was in his knee and he knows he has arthritis there. I remember one medical person telling him to avoid stairs as much as possible which was rather a waste of advice then since we lived one flight up at that time. Now, of course, we have no stairs except the three to get off the deck.

My complaints about the landlord and trash disposal seem to be endless.  Last Monday, he didn’t put the recyclables bin out and I had it full of cardboard and jars and cans. So, yesterday, I went out with a bag of paper and, of course, can’t get it in the bin. He is paying for a big bin for the non-recyclables but the one we are using for the other stuff is one Mike {previous landlord} left behind and it isn’t really big enough. Well, I suppose it would be big enough if it was emptied weekly. I think I will try to catch him outside one day and remind him that we will have a lot more recyclable stuff around Christmas.

Speaking of Christmas, at the moment, we have decided not to put up the tree. I just can’t face moving the treadmill, I have decided. I should have got Fred’s son-in-law and his grandson to help me move it when they were here after Thanksgiving. I did think about it but thinking was as far as it got! And mentioning the treadmill reminds me that I want to record that I am doing twenty minutes every second day now. Every second day works well for me in that I am more motivated to do it if I have taken the orevious day off. I am still not going very fast but I am including a bit of walking on an incline. And, as I tell myself, twenty minutes is much better than zero minutes.

you’re so right… 20 minutes is so much better than no minutes. i wouldn’t have put up my tree if blake hadn’t brought it upstairs for me. just not in the holiday mood. not sure i will be this year. i hope both you and fred get to feeling better soon. take care

Twenty minutes is fine. You also do other walking if I remember right. Here I am trying to swim an hour a day but I think your idea of going every other day might be better. Did you ever buy a small laptop?

That will be one less thing to deal with when Christmas is over! I hope your UTI goes away soon. I know those are very uncomfortable. I hope Fred’s knees feel better soon.

I know you’re trying to declutter (and doing a better job of it than me) but they do have some very cheery mini trees in Target to get you in the spirit.

I found that the incline bothers my foot that got broken a couple years ago. I was doing the incline so I could change up my routine somewhat. Oh well. Now I just stay on the treadmill for 35 minutes. Of course I worked my way up to that much. I agree that something is better than nothing always.

Darn, I wish your landlord would get on the ball! Maybe he needs to start walking on a treadmill….he definitely needs SOMEthing! (a swift kick in the pants, maybe??) hugs, Weesprite

How irritating about the landlord and the recycling bin. Good for you on the exercising! You put me to shame.

We put up a small one this year. It is on a small trunk by the front door. We get just as much pleasure out of it as we do the big ones.

i could certainly do without the tree too, but Hub won’t hear of it…

Why not compromise and just decorate the treadmill? 😉

I just wanted to thank you for the note on Cranford. It is such a gorgeous movie, and Judi Dench, well, she just made it for me. Have you read any of the Cranford novels?

When the kids are gone I will no longer put up a tree…maybe a little table top one. 🙂

I find, aside from stairs, there are certain foods that irritate the arthritis – cheese is HIGH on my list. I take cranberry capsules regularly to avoid UTI. Not something you’d want to have at massage time.

ryn: Thanks for the suggestion….I wouldn’t put it past me to not check something like that, but yes, I did. I even tried plugging it into a different outlet. No dice. *sigh*
