So, Today…
In some ways it is excellent being "una pensionata" but I can see that it may not always be the best thing for me. For example, yesterday I felt like doing nothing, so that is what I did –all day! Back in the days when I had a job, it didn’t matter what I felt like doing, I had to get going and teach, and when I had two jobs, go to the bookstore afterwards. Yesterday, I lay on the bed and read most of the day and even took a tiny nap. I must have needed it because I slept well all night and was getting a shower at 7:15 this morning.
Short pause here to make coffee and get something to eat. My stomach thinks it is still in Italy and there it is lunch time. Anyway, while I was in the kitchen making coffee and toast, I stuck my nose outside to see what the weather was like and saw Roberto, who lives next door, scraping frost off his windshield. That made me think of another way Fred and I are different. I tend to eyeball the weather; he looks up the temperature on line!
I have some bits and pieces of unpacking yet to do today including going down into the basement to put away the suitcases. I am a big believer in multitasking {the washer and dryer are in the basement} so I will strip the bed — after Fred gets up, of course and wash sheets. I really hate coming back from a holiday because it takes me several days to get back into my normal routine.
I forgot to mention that Fred had a "Welcome home" present for me. It is –well, the label says a poncho but it is open down the front. I always think of ponchos having to be put on over the head but this one gets slung elegantly over my shoulders. It is red and as well as having a rather nice fringe, is machine washable! Italian women wear lovely knit scarves and I WAS tempted to buy myself a knitted one, but I have lots of scarves already. The ones I considered to be a reasonable price were all made in China or in India. I can get stuff like that here. I did actually buy myself a light shawl/scarf which was made in Italy and was, therefore, expensive. I also bought myself an Italian leather purse.
A list of things I would like to get done today—notice, no promises!
- make a loaf in the clever machine
- get the suitcases into the basement
- strip and remake the bed.
- wash sheets
- finish reading the book club choice for this month because the meeting is next Tuesday {We are reading The Secret}
- put the book marks with the pictures on them of Lucca in a place where I can find them to give them to the women of the book club.
- get the cars moved so the trick and treaters can get round the back easily?

What a nice present Fred got for you! I was thinking, when I made my cloak to wear to Samhain, that cloaks or ponchos are glorious things and something I could easily wear lots of times! Now btw, what’s so bad about doing nothing when one feels like doing nothing?! I enjoy it, most times! :o) !! hugs, Weesprite

That was a sweet welcome home present! For some reason, I did picture you taking the sheets off of the bed with Fred still in it. LOL! There’s nothing wrong at all with napping and taking the day off. In fact, it gives your body a chance to rejuvenate! (((Hugs))) Pat

What do you think of The Secret? I found it interesting, but it hasn’t worked for me yet!

What a nice gift, and I’m sure he’s just as happy to have you telling that clever machine to make him some fresh bread!

My mom told me that Italian women spend what could be considered a fortune on clothes, at least to your average American woman. I know you are not American but you’ve lived here so do you have an opinion on that? 🙂

I received a shawl/poncho for a gift last year so I can imagine what yours looks like – a cross between the two. I’m sure it’s very elegant. Isn’t it lovely to be able to rest when your body and soul needs it?

🙂 I love the idea of eye-balling the weather. I got back on Sunday too and it has taken me this long to get into my rhythm (which I can never spell). Plus, I was only away two weeks and only one of them far away.

Fred is thoughtful 🙂

Welcome home. It sounds like you very much enjoyed your holiday and your brand new hip was not too much trouble for you. My Mum is getting her hip replaced in February and is a bit nervous until I told her about you and all of what you were going through with yours and your travel plans a couple short months afterward. She has gained some peace from that, so thank you.

A few more days and you’ll be back to normal

Ponchos are “in” again. They had a lovely one on one of the home shopping networks that had pockets and you flung it over your shoulders. I like days when I do nothing. They are rare. =)

You certainly plan to do a lot today but isn’t it great that most can wait for another day.

what a sweet present for you. I would love to have a few shawls. I have one & would like about 4 more of different colors to go with more of my clothes. Maybe I’ll get more when we get to Arizona for cooler evenings.
