Snowy Thursday

So, today it is snowing so much that the local schools are closed. And, let me tell you that in Vermont, that means a LOT of snow! It also means that I don’t have to slog up the hill in the snow to read with Nick! Actually, if you had told me this yesterday, I would have done the rejoice-and-be-merry dance, but today I am feeling a little disappointed!

The book club book this month is Blood of My Blood which is Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings first “lost” novel. It is about a relationship between a mother and daughter and it is actually very autobiographical even to the point of using the real names of her mother, her father and herself. It is a rather odd book and not one I would have continued with if I didn’t have to read it for the book club. The reason it came into my mind is that since we only have one copy at the moment, I need to get it back to the library to have it passed on to another book club person. Theoretically, Amanda is supposed to be getting us other copies from other libraries but she does not have a good track record at doing this. I got this copy first because I am a fast reader and told the others that, and promised to have it read within a day or two. I was going to give it to Martha this morning, but since the school is closed, I will not be seeing her. {Martha is the children’s librarian at the library as well as running the Vermont Reads activities at the school.}

I think I will try to walk to the library later today {it is just around the corner} to get a brief walk and to get the book back to the library. Of course, I am assuming that the library will be open. It is supposed to be open from 10 am until 6 pm  today but when Sarah was the boss, she often could not get in to work because of the snow. She used to call me and I would walk round the corner to either open or put a note on the door saying that the library was closed because of bad weather! But since I no longer work there…  Interestingly enough, I have not been replaced. The library hours have been changed  to open at 1 pm on Tuesdays {I used to open up at 10 am and do the morning alone} and closed on Saturday mornings which I also used to do alone. The sign changing the hours says it is temporary, but I bet it isn’t. I have just noticed the weather channel’s little icon in my tray is flashing which means severe weather and when I went to check, we are under a winter storm warning until 5 pm this afternoon. The temperature is 25 degrees and “feels like 14 degrees.” Brrr!

Ok, things to get done today:

  • Try to get the Rawlings book back to the library. {I will not worry if I can’t do this}
  • Listen carefully for the third knead cycle {very brief} to get the paddle out of the dough in the bread machine. It is doing the second knead now and then it rests for 30 minutes before the last knead.
  • Walk on the treadmill. I watched the first three episodes of “I Claudius” last night and will put the second DVD in when I get on the machine.
  • Maybe give the kitchen floor a quick lick-and-a-promise? No promises on this.

Until later..

Ugh more snow. Thanks, but we have plenty. Very nice of you though. Libraries are wonderful places, I love the quiet peacefulness. Take care, and I hope that your library is open.

You got our snow! Yesterday morning they said we were getting 12″-18″. By the end of the day, it was down to 2″-4″. It has been raining pretty hard, but I think it’s changing over to sleet. YUCK!

Wow, that’s really cold! I’d huddle at home all day. But then again, I live in the Southwest, were 50F is considered cold! 😉

we had snow too but not as much as predicted. this is the worst time–when you are already sick of winter and it doesn’t end.
