Sheesh
I got the one load {a BIG load} of laundry done, dried and put away and then I took a two-hour nap! I am constantly being unpleasantly surprised by finding that I can no longer do what I used to do before the surgery. Pre-surgery, I had one laundry day a week where I washed, dried, and put away at least three separate loads: the whites, the permanent-pressed stuff and the sheets and towels. And now one load knocks me out…
Anyway, I did go out and walk to the corner and then came back. I took a 5 mg oxycodone so the pain is ebbing away and I feel much calmer. I did have plans to do another load tomorrow but that is all in the lap of the gods at the moment. It will all depend how I feel tomorrow morning.
In news that is not connected to the hip replacement, I have started putting together a packing list for Italy. I have already got one for when I used to go to my sister’s in England but that was based on the fact that I would use my sister’s washer and drier AND wear a lot of her clothes! I will be gone to Italy for six weeks but want to take only one case {excluding my carry-on} so I am thinking layers and washing out underwear at night! The one person I have talked to who actually went to this same school said there is a laundromat within walking distance of the school but could tell me nothing about it because her husband did that bit! I have started stocking up on those little Woolite packages! For me half the enjoyment of a trip like this is the planning,,,
Fred just got back from the grocery store and brought me some onion dip and a bowl of Doritos!

Hang in there… I have had 3 major surgeries… and it always surprised me how long it took to get back into the swing of things… and I was very young and in good shape when I had them… so I’d say you are doing great!

Cut yourself some slack! Why do you think that a 6-week recuperation period is needed? It’s not all just because of the wound site. It’s the rest of the body and the ability to bounce back. Anesthetic takes its toll, for sure! (((Hugs)))

I bet they sell Woolite in Italy, or its equivalent. Rick Stebes (sp) a PBS travel guy from either Washington state or Oregon does all of Europe stuff and probably has web site. Probably also has travel/packing guide for extended stay. Hope this helps, BTW you are doing terrific!!! have fun…dan

Hold on Patricia – it isn’t the load that knocks you out – its the getting down the stairs and getting to the load and then the stain while you are doing it. Your body is sleeping so that you get the strength and recuperation for the next onslaught. don’t knock it! Your are doing FANTASTICALLY to have got that load done. And each day you will be able to do more. Just congratulate yourself!

I meant strain not stain – sorry. Honestly. You’re doing fab.

I know what I had done to me is small potatoes compared to a total hip replacement…..and I’m feeling depressed and tired of not being “myself.” We’ll get better, Patricia. In time.

RYN: Thank You SO much, I can’t tell you how happy I am, too. I hope you don’t mind, but I used your story as an example for my Mom. I told her about you, and what happened after your hip replacement – and that’s when I started crying. I said if it can happen to my friend who is younger than you, it can happen to YOU. Thank you for being so helpful – and I’d love to be able to get together sometime this year! {{{{HUGS}}}},

To read your reaction to the surgery reminds me of my recovery and yes, it does seem a long time, but every day is just a tiny bit better.

It takes a lot of energy for your body to do the work of repairing the tissue damage from that operation. Yes, exercising it is really good for things in general, but you definitely need some ‘down time’ to process everything after you’ve accomplished something like a load of laundry. I think you did a fantastic job. Drink lots of water so that your body can kick out the “bad stuff,” and eat healthy so that it can build those tissues back up. Be patient with yourself…you have made tremendous progress. You can get back to leaping over tall buildings with a single bound another day! 😀 I hereby give you permission to take a day off and let your body catch up to the rest of you. Hugs!!!!

” … because her husband did that bit!” Aren’t husbands wonderful? 🙂

I agree with all the other noters. Your energy levels will come back in time. I’ve benn through several surgeries and it seems like that was always the last thing to return. I think you’re doing a FANTASTIC job!!! Dear sweet Fred! Bringing you Doritos and dip!! Hugs, M

You really can’t expect to recover quite as quickly. It’s a long process, and you’ve had a big operation! I’m sure you’ll be back to how you were before, but be patient!

Thank you for your note…and I can so relate to the planning part of a trip. It’s almost as much fun as the trip itself, if you sort out your outfits, and how you’re going to keep things clean etc. I’m sure you’ll have a fantastic time.

It IS going to take some time for your body to recuperate. I know that like the rest of us, you’d like to just bounce back and be done with it, but that’s not the way of it. Considering what you had done, you’re doing better than most people do. Be kind to yourself. Please. And onion dip and dorito’s? Mmmmm!!!!! Love to you! ~M

Always frustrating when it takes our bodies a lot longer to catch up with our wills and our minds.
