Saturday at Home

Well, I didn’t get to Walmarts to get the heavy socks but since I found four pairs while I rummaged around looking for thermal underwear…

It was very cold today. This morning and this afternoon it was 27 degrees but, according to the weather channel program on my desktop, it felt like 17! I went out for a 45 minute walk this morning and between the waist and the ankles, I  FROZE! I forgot that when the temperature feels  that low, I need more than one pair of jeans. Actually, I wan’t even wearing jeans but some rather nice polyester-that-looks-like-suede pants I got at Marks and Spencers last year when I was visiting my sister.

Last year, some of you may remember that when I shrank down from a size 18 jeans to a 14, I went out in very cold weather wearing the loose 18’s on top of the 14s and that worked very well. But now all the 18s have gone to freecycle {http://www.freecycle.org} so before I went out again this afternoon {temperature 27 feels like 20 woo-hoo!} I looked for the thermal underwear. Now before I did the last cleanout for freecycle, I could have told you exactly where those thermal long-johns were– in the corner of the bedroom tossed on top of  some T-shirts that need to be put away. But now I am {relatively} tidy, I have no idea where they are. I DO know they didn’t go into the freecycle bags, though! So, I put another pair of pants on over the ones I am wearing today and off I went for another 30 minutes. I got back with a red nose and icy fingers but I enjoyed it. And then I got out my credit card, went on line to the LL Bean site and ordered myself two pairs of size 14 jeans that are flannel-lined!

Ok, the bit in between the two walks. I did quite a lot even though I didn’t get to Walmarts. I did give the bathroom a good thorough cleaning which is why I smell deliciously of chlorine bleach! I washed dishes and cleaned the stove and  rummaged around in a few drawers looking for the missing underwear. I also read a bit more of the Lee Child’s book I am reading. I have finished The Secret Life of Bees for the book club on Tuesday.

Oh, thinking about freecycle {which I was since I am contemplating what else I can clean out} I opened up my mail program {Eudora} last night and noticed that although most pieces of mail had filtered into the “freecycle” folder, there was one in the “friends” folder. So, I opened that one first only to find it was not only  a piece of mail from the freecycle list but also it was from a friend. The filter had  recognized the address and popped it in there! And, as it happened, she was asking if anyone had three art-connected things she needed. And I have two of them–an easel and a drawing board which I will be delighted to give her as soon as she lets me know when she will be in this area and can pick them up.

I-Poddery: What I am listening to as I write…

  • “The Sisters of Mercy” Leonard Cohen
  • “The Tower of Song” written by Cohen but sung {badly} by someone else
  • “One Man’s Ceiling is Another Man’s Floor” Paul Simon
  • “Punky’s Dilemma” Simon and Garfunkle
  • “Catch the Wind” Donovan
  • “Suzanne” Leonard Cohen
  • “In Enterprise of Martial Kind” {The Duke of Plazo Toro} Gilbert and Sullivan
  • “Closing Time” Leonard Cohen
  • “Her Mother’s Daughter” Dory Previn

Until later…

So it wasn’t you guys who sent us all this snow. Hope you find the long johns. Doesn’t pay to get too organized as then you lose stuff.

I remember your 2 pairs of jeans phase. Flannel lined sounds like the ticket.

I bought a nice pair of polartec pants on sale at a GAP outlet that work nicely on those cold days. Are you finding you chill easier now that you are lighter in weight?

Nice music.

“Closing Time” is one of my Cohen favorites!

flannel lined jeans?? maybe we should invest in some of those!!!! RYN: I’m rally the sae way. I love the snow now. But I hate driving in it, and if it snows in March or April, I’m sick to death of it. Of course, like you I’m a transplant and lived many years in warmer climates. This is my third winter. I’m still allowed to love snow 🙂

I remember you and those extra layers last year.

CC wears lined overalls. I think I’ll have a good cry when she finally outgrows her 12 month pair (they’re getting tight). I love reading freecycle for entertainment, but never gave or got anything through the site.

We layer here in Buffalo, too…mandatory! 🙂

Flannel-lined jeans! Now that is a good idea! I hope you find those longjohns. It’s kinda nice to hear that even tidy people sometimes haven’t a clue as to where things are! I hope you enjoy your walks today too, without freezing quite as much. Weesprite

PS: Did you know Laurel Burch has a greeting card line out? Just received a brightly colored cat card from a friend.

RYN: Thank you for the note 🙂 I have considered that, but there was some major stuff that happened that’s never Ok. My throwing him out was likely a hormone surge..the reason I was so angry was pretty well justified. He’s been lying to me for a couple of months now about something…like looking me in the eyes lying…and admitted to planning on doing the same for some time.

Hi Patrisha, I am eagerly awaiting your email! I think you must have written my old address — I changed to AOL maybe 6 months ago. Love, Anna
