Retail Therapy

This morning I went out to buy some things I really needed.  When I went downstairs to start my car, the battery whined and clicked a time or two but eventually kicked in. I think it may be time  to consider a new battery. Anyway, this difficulty starting reminded me that I had forgotten to get my cell phone so I ran back upstairs and got it.

First, I went to Best Buy and got a rather nice case for my camera for less than $30. Of course I took the camera with me since I am very bad at estimating size and so I had to “declare” it at the entrance and have a sticker put on it so I wouldn’t be accused of stealing it! I got some funny looks from a young man who worked there since I took down several bags from the display and took out the paper inside to see if my camera would fit, but, hey, I am not going to buy without trying. And I was good at putting the paper back and hanging the unchosen ones back on the display. I thougt about looking at the iPod Shuffles but decided not to because I knew I wan’t going to buy.

When I went out to my car, I suddenly noticed that my gas gauge was showing me that I only had a quarter of a tank which, for me, is really strange because I am almost neurotic about never ever letting my gas gauge go down below half. I wrote myself a note and put it on the steering wheel to remind me I needed to get gas before I went home. When I was living in Mississippi, I used to put a reminder note on my car wheel when I got to school so I could fill up before I went home. It was a big problem to let myself run out of gas because I lived 30 miles from town then. Here I could walk to the gas station in 10 minutes.

Next, I went to Walmart  and got some Super-Glue to fix two earrings, a plastic box and some cards to write my most frequently-used recipes {mostly bread and, of course, gingerbread,} and a pair of black jeans which I don’t need but just wanted. Something I have noticed lately is that when I was a size 18, it was difficult to find any size 18 jeans. Now I am a 14, the shelves this morning were packed full of size 18s and I really had to search for the size 14s! It is a conspiracy, I tell you! I filled up with gas before I came home and was horrified to find it is now $2.15 a gallon now.

When I got home, my open purse flipped my wallet out onto the road. I picked it up and went upstairs to where Fred had just finished making a big pot of his Famous Oatmeal. I filled a bowl and sat down to eat. I put my looking-at-things-at-a-distance glasses away and went to my purse for my looking-at-things-closely glasses but they weren’t there! Total panic! Eventually I remembered that stuff had fallen out of my purse and went downstairs to see if the glasses were there. Much to my relief, there they were, lying on the road, unbroken and unscratched and not stepped on! Whew!

Until later…

Yikes. (I drove home once with my wallet on top of the truck, so I felt your ‘what happened to that stuff’ worry when you couldn’t find your glasses) and… um… Nuts. I had one more thing to say.

A-ha! I feel your high-gas-price pain, too. They’re talking $3/gallon in these parts. I nearly died.

Hero and I have a running discussion about gas. He always likes a nearly full tank. I say, with gas prices going up, it’s easier to keep the tank at 1/4 to 1/2 and put $10 in once or twice a week. I guess it evens out, but neither one of us will budge on the issue!

Yikes, I would have panicked to see my glasses gone.

Sounds like a great day, really! 🙂 I’m glad you found your glasses. I once ran over mine, with my car. Well I didn’t know they were lying alongside the car! You inspired me; I think tomorrow (since it’s supposed to rain anyhow) will be a good day for shopping. Some home-made bread would go so well with the soup I made. Here’s wishing you a lovely evening! hugs, Weesprite

*huggs* I cannot even count how many times I drop things out of my purse (?????)

You are lucky! Mark had a similar experience , but his glasses were on the basement floor at a friend’s house, for a couple of months, and not in the case, either. Can you believe it, they were not stepped on. Eye glasses are so expensive! I’m happy that yours are okay. ryn – Yes, Bookworm is my favorite, too! Once in a while I like a change.

We’re past the 2.25 mark here, and steadily rising. It’s a true pain in the tuckus, it is. Isn’t retail therapy fun?

I wish gas was $2.15 here. I just filled up today and gas is $2.35 and suppose to go up. It took $30 to fill a 12 gallon tank. That’s just crazy. My husband has a SUV and it will cost about $50 or more to fill that pig.

gas is $2.27 here and I’ve seen some stations with gas at $2.40 …. Costco had it for $2.12 yesterday, but then I don’t have a Costco card!
