Physical Therapy and Snow

I went to physical therapy yesterday where a new evaluation was done and I got told all sorts of things I knew already! The muscles on the side of my left leg are still weak although not as weak as when I was there last since I can now lie on my right side and left my left leg against gravity. Not very high and not for long but I can do it.

After the evaluation was done. I got to walk on the treadmill wearing the harness. The harness is something that is fastened tightly, very tightly–think boob squish time,  round my body and the long straps put over my shoulders. Then the straps are hooked to bars above me and a crank is turned. This has the effect of lifting me enough to get some of my body weight off my legs. I was asked how much I weighed and then fifty pounds of weight was taken from me! It really made a difference to how I was able to walk, another incentive for getting back on the weight-loss wagon. I am 175 pounds now and want to go back to 160. Anyway, I walked for four minutes like this at a very low speed concentrating on putting my foot down properly from toe to heel not as an unbending unit. And, goodness, I can feel it this morning. Nothing hurts but the muscles are stiff.

Then Fred came to pick me up and take me to the grocery store where a branch of our bank is. He waited in the car while I went to get cash for Beth, my masseuse. This is the time of the year where I pay her in advance for massages and she gives me a good price. However this year, I am seriously considering only getting 12 rather than 24 massages. I love going every two weeks but I actually want to save some money for another trip to Italy. I have a massage booked for this coming Sunday but I am going to call and cancel. We have had a lot of snow and there is, Fred tells me, a nor’easter supposed to be coming in this weekend. I expect Beth will be pleased too, because she has to drive further than I do!

Plans for the day include doing a bit of a cleanup in my work room and doing three loads of laundry–  whites, colored clothes and sheets. Ok, off to get things done!

Until later…

That contraption sounds uncomfortable, but if it helps you to build up the muscles you need, a little discomfort is worth it! Stay safe during this next winter blast. (((Hugs)))

I’ve always wanted to get a professional massage. That should go on my ‘list of things that need doing in 2008′! RYN: Yes, it’s hard to believe it’s been so long. And we’ve been friends even longer… going on three years. Although for both of us it’s strange, because it feels like we havent’ been together nearly that long 🙂 And thank you for what you said about my writing. Thatmeans a lot to me 🙂

My sister was talking about the upcoming nor’easter. HOpe you guys don’t get bombarded!!!! You can always send some this way!!!! Hugs, M

That’s wonderful about therapy and the progress you’re making. I will restart weight loss after the holidays. I simply can’t and don’t want to forgo some of the Christmas goodies 🙂

The amazing things they think of to do! (That harness that “takes weight off” so you can walk more easily, I mean!) hugs, Weesprite

That would be incentive to get back on a good plan of eating.

Stay safe and warm during the storm.

December 14, 2007

I heard about the storm heading your way. Hope you’re well stocked with supplies. From the way they talked, it could be blizzard conditions. I thought about you when I saw the map.

🙂 another trip to Italy? cool! yes, I need to lose weight too if only to make getting around easier. That exercise sounds great!

yes, a nor’easter is on the way… it’s developing over colorado right now and will be here late saturday night into sunday. i think it’s cool that you are thinking of another trip to italy. hope this new p/t will help you… even though it sounds quite uncomfortable. take care,

When everyone moves out, I am going to get massages. I have so much to look forward to when I retire.

I need one of those harnesses for every day use! ** giggling madly ** I woulnd’t mind carrying around 50 less pounds of body weight. Seriously, I’m really glad they have such a device because then you can walk on that treadmill much easier. Yea!
