Physical Therapy Again

Another session that knocked me out! I came home and slept for two hours. In defense, I only slept five hours last night and those were not consecutively.

First she took me through some fairly gentle exercises while I was lying on the padded table. There were others, but the ones I remember because I have to do them at home are first, lying on my back and "making a bridge" by pushing up with my butt muscles, and secondly, sliding my left leg out to the side and back again. Then I got to use some of the machines. The first one was one where I lay on my back with my feet up against a bar. I then pushed myself back using my legs and then eased myself back to the original position. I did this first pushing from my heels on the bar and then with the upper part of the sole of my foot.

The next part had me seated on a big ball with Leslie {the therapist} seated in front of me on another ball. My knees were parted and my feet were flat on the floor. I kept my balance by having my hands out in front of me and on her hands. In that position, I did quick bounces by pushing with my feet. This was actually quite easy but it got difficult when I had to do slow bounces. Every so often she would lean forward and poke the part of my anatomy I was supposed to be using. Then she went behind me as I was still on the ball and put her hands on my shoulders so I felt safe and not afraid of falling backwards. I put my arms out at shoulder level and did slow torso twists followed by stretching one arm up and the other down while bending sideways from my waist.

The next part was interesting because she put me on a stationary bike. I had actually forgotten to ask the doctor if it was OK to ride my bicycle so I was interested in this activity. The tension was adjusted so I had a small amount of resistance to push against and then she told me to go for two minutes and then stop for 30 seconds. I managed this and then she told me to keep on like this as long as I could. I managed almost another two minutes but then had to stop for longer and then when I tried for the third time, I barely did a minute. However, Leslie seemed pleased.

Now, during these exercises, I occasionally felt muscles in my butt and in my legs and thighs being exercised, but now, after a two hour nap, I am VERY aware I have had a work-out of those muscles…

Ouch!

The next session is on Monday.

When she starts having you do lunges, that’s when your butt will REALLY feel it. LOL! Sounds like you had a very good workout. Congratulations!
