“Oh Bliss! Oh Joy!”
Hear that loud noise? If you look out of your window, you will see world-wide rejoicing and dancing in the streets! My desktop computer is working again.
Here’s what happened. Yesterday while I was in class, we had a big and noisy thunderstorm. Unfortunately, I had left my desk top computer on. And a switch in the power-surge thingies {technical name } I have under my desk was thrown and my computer went off and stayed off. Now Fred didn’t really notice this. He did notice that the monitor was blank but he thought it was like his, and like my laptop and set up to do this after a time when no one has touched the keys. So, when I came home, no computer.
When I get home after class, I am usually tired and hungry and yesterday, I was damp too. Fred picked me up a little late and I had been sheltering from the rain under the doorway of the college entry but, of course, had to keep popping out into the rain to see if he was coming. So, I was not only damp but also cold since I had dressed for hot-and-humid {short-sleeved T-shirt and shorts} and here it was cool and rainy! When I got home and realized what had probably happened, I decided not to get down under my desk and try to fix it because first, I was totally embarrassed at how dirty it was when I looked down there, and secondly, I was too hungry/tired/damp/irritable to be sitting on the floor. I hate sitting on the floor because it is then I realize I am 71 and I have a bad hip! And anyway, I was going to sit on the bed in air-conditioned comfort in the bedroom and use my lovely little laptop! Which I did.
So today, I girded up my loins, so to speak, got a couple of damp and a couple of dry paper towels and wiped up all the dirt/dust and general yukiness that was under there. I DO vacuum pretty regularly but not near the spaghetti-tangle under my desk! Then I turned off all the surge suppressors and made sure everything that was supposed to be plugged in was plugged in properly, and then I turned on my computer. Lights flashed, fans whirred and I am happy again!
Until later…
yes, that is scary indeed. Not a good thing to mess with electricity. Good thing you had a surge protector!

I’m only 32 and I hate sitting on the floor for the same reason. Good lord, what am I going to be like when I’m 71?! Hooray for working computers 🙂

yeah for the surge protector. I am glad it all worked out so well.

Computers seem to attract a lot of dust just like most electronic equipment.

That is scary…mine just shut down on me and wouldn’t open back up…it gave me quite a scare, but seems to be working fine now. Hmmm..strange computer. 🙂 Josh

Yay! And hooray for a cleaned-up under-the-desk zone. I live in fear of the dusty cord-nest under hubby’s workstation. 4 computers and a bunch of peripherals? Egads, the stringage is immense. And the dust bunnies it collects? They breed like… well… bunnies.

I’m pretty sure there’s more than just dust and dirt in the tangle of wires under my desk….perhaps an oreo or pretzel with pop up now and again..LOL!

loin girding is a good thing! lol Aren’t surge protectors wonderful!?! Being without the computer for a long time stinks!

I let J do that, he’s far more confident than I when it comes to unsnarling the computer mess.

I sustained a near dirty injury trying to reconnect a computer wire underneath my classroom desk. I wound up getting grease of some kind from the underside of my desk drawer on my arm…. thank goodness it was not my shirt or heads would have rolled haha. I am quite the frugal girl and hate to ruin any article of clothing, even when it is my own doing that causes the stain 😮 )
