No Massage and Other Stuff

I was supposed to have a massage today. I left the house a bit earlier than usual to go to the drugstore first since I needed to pick up my eye drops, Then I started into Burlington. I was about half way there and listening to some cheery marches when suddenly, I heard "Halleujah! Hallelujah!" coming from my purse! I had forgotten my cell phone was in there so that was a surprise. Now, when I am driving, I don’t do anything but drive so I let it go to voice mail and checked the voice mail when I was in the parking lot of the massage place. It was Beth, the massage therapist telling me she was having car trouble so would it be all right to postpone the massage until next Sunday?  I called her back and said that would be fine unless we had a heavy snow {which is when I tend to cancel.} She added, "Or I hit another moose!" which is the reason she cancelled last year! Both reasons seem rather unlikely, so I guess the massage will be next Sunday…

I stopped at Subway on the way home and got a sandwich with turkey and lots and lots of veggies. I have been there several times since I found it. In Vermont there restrictions on how big and how high businesses can have their signs and so, although I had been looking for it for some time, I didn’t find it partly because I have to admit I was looking on the wrong side of the road for it!  It was not until Diane’s husband said it was on the left that I started looking for it there! When I first came to Vermont, I was a little taken aback to find that the signs on the interstates and the roads are so small but after a while, I got used to it. But, to a certain extent, there is no doubt that if you are on an interstate in Vermont, you have to know which interstate exit you need to get to get off at. The interstate exits are marked but there are no business signs!I know when I was in North Carolina I was amazed and somewhat disconcerted to find I didn’t have to divide the trash into recyclables and non-recyclables. Here I have a non-recycle trashcan and a box for recyclables. When I first came to live here we had to separate paper from the rest of the recyclables. Now, apparently, they have clever machines that separate the glass and cans from the paper!

Tomorrow is laundry day…

Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone. ~Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers)

we have a recycle container, too. I often wonder how they separate stuff.

You are fairly sanguine about having the appointment changed…that is the way to be.

hope her car repair doesn’t cost her an arm and leg. haven’t been to subway in a while. might just have to go today. take care,

Our village just got the separator machines for recyclables last year…no more separate paper/plastic totes! I almost hit a moose once while driving thru Vermont…in 1987. He was standing in the middle of the highway on my way thru to Montreal. My husband screamed, I screamed and we slid sideways in our Camaro trying to miss him. He walked over, licked the side view mirror and then tookoff into the woods. I’ll never forget it as long a I live! LOL!

I remember coming to the US for the very first time and was shocked at all the advertising signs all over. Germany isn’t like that, there are a lot of restrictions as well. I guess now I’m sort of used to it, but I never forget the shock. And Subway is pretty good and no dripping fat like other fast foods.

Yep, it’s not everyday you hit a moose.

I think it’s great that Vermont has rules about how many signs there can be and where they are and how big they can be….but I would also have a harder time finding places! Down here, though, there are way too many big ol’ ugly signs. I don’t answer my phone when I’m driving anymore either, unless I can pull over to the side of the road really quick…. I don’t want to get ANOTHER cell phoneticket!! hugs, Nicky
