My Favorite Bread Machine Recipe
Most bread machines have their little foibles. By trial and error, I have found that mine needs a tablespoon less of water than the recipe calls for!
Ingredients: {This makes a 1.5 pound loaf of white bread which actually has taste even without adding spices.}
- 1 cup of barely-warm water
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil OR canola oil. {Canola oil seems to make a slightly “sturdier” bread}
- 3 cups of flour {I use bread flour mostly but the recipe turns out well with just ordinary flour.}
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- 1 and a half teaspoons of salt. {I have cut this down a little with no problems}
- 2 teaspoons of yeast {just regular yeast, not fast acting}
- {by choice}1 teaspoon more-or-less to choice of rosemary or thyme or other spice
Put all ingredients {except the rosemary if you are going to use it} in the bread machine in the order given. I make a dent in the center of the flour and put the yeast in that.
Set the machine to 1.5 size {which is the default on mine} and “French bread” Hit start. Add the rosemary when the machine goes into second knead. The whole thing takes about 4 hours.
This makes delicious toast when it is a day old.
My mom has a bread machine she never uses….I may have to try this one out!

I love to bake bread.. do you think this recipe would work by hand? (of course I’d proof the yeast first..)

I LOVE my bread machine! I’ll definitely try this one! I do one with garlic, and oregano and grated cheese that’s like eating pizza, if you’re into that sort of thing… Whoops, I need to be careful…I could gain a pound just thinking about all this!!!!! Love ya! ~M

I keep thinking about buying a bread machine and waffle on it because I try to watch my carb intake and that pretty much negates that. lol But this recipes sounds great.

Have you ever tried cheeses in your breads? We have a neat little bread store and they have cheese in their breads. I was wondering if that would work in a bread machine?

We bought a bread machine about 3 years ago, and since you’ve so kindly shared this recipe, I think it’s time that machine got a workout. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
