My Car and Other Things

My car is in its proper place — parked outside our back door. Around 1 pm I got a phone call that the car would be ready  around 3 so at 2:30 I drive the ugly little white car I have been using for three days back to Enterprise, sign the appropriate papers so that they can get paid and they drive me down the road to the body shop. There I pay out the money the insurance company have already paid me and reunite with my once-again-beautiful blue Kia. And they had vacuumed the floor mats so I got it back in better condition than I gave it to them!

This evening our landlord came in and put batteries in the carbon monoxide alarm. And that seems to have cured the beeps. I thanked him and said, "While I have you here…"  He was kind enough to stand on a chair, take off the the glass cover and replace a bulb in the light in the winter clothes closet. The light fixture has one of those glass covers that are held on by three screws. I had one in the bathroom of my house but back then I was able to stand on chairs and hold my arms over my head for a long time!

I went for a walk this morning down the road to a little local park. It has a nice little gazebo and I sat in there and read for about 10 minutes and then walked back. I was thinking this morning that I made the right decision in not taking a trip and not taking a class this summer. My strength is coming back and my energy is increasing by the proverbial leaps and bounds. Tomorrow I will go and price impatiens. I also want to look into getting one of those upside down bags and trying some tomatoes.  Hmm, I have lots of questions to ask at the garden shop. I have no idea when to plant tomatoes…

What I am reading:

  • Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick This is actually a reread; I notice I had forgotten a lot of it.
  • Travels with a Donkey by R. L. Stevenson This is our next book club reading. It has its moments but is not a book I would read by choice.

QUOTATIONS:

"Step by step. I can’t think of any other way of accomplishing anything."

Michael Jordan

None will improve your lot If you yourself do not.

Have a good weekend.

I usually don’t plant tomatoes until Mother’s Day, but this year the weatther has been colder than usual. I think I’ll do it soon, though, or they won’t have long enough to grow. I keep an eye on the weather report, though. If the temps get close to freezing, I’ll cover them. I usually save milk cartons with the bottoms cut off and cover them up, but I forgot to do that this year. OOPS!

I am so happy for you that they had your car ready!! Yay! I was the same way you all are when I was in my dorm room. My knees are horrible and my fear of heights is worse, so when my light bulbs went out (ceiling lights with the globe lights/3 screw setup), I called upon my neighboring tall young man to rescue me. Or I flagged down a maintenance guy, if I saw one. Have a wonderful weekend!

We’ve planted Tomatoes already, but we’re a bit more south than you are. 😉 My Mom bought the Upside down Tomato hangers/planters….she’s also got plants for them, so when she gets them going, I’ll take photos!

RYN: I have subbed in HS, MS, and Elementary. I like MS and would take Language Arts if I was offered it.

It is good to read that you are gaining strength and energy. Sometimes it is good to take that extra time for oneself and recuperation.

I’m glad you finally got your car back.

HURRAH on getting your car back. I read that Dick novel a long time ago, and I’m thinking maybe I should go revisit it. We plant tomatoes about this time, but we’re just a bit farther south than you are. Plus your lake is bigger, so it probably stays cooler longer there. Maybe Memorial day? If you get the upside-down bag, check the moisture every day. A friend made home-made versions, and it grew furiously until he forgot to water it two hot days in a row!

A freshly plucked tomato is one of the greatest pleasures in life. We usually plant SuperSweet100’s, which are those little round ones. I also enjoy the yellow pear shaped ones, which have a great taste to them. By all means, go for it — usually you can stick them in the ground as soon as the last frost is over.

We’ve had our tomatoes in for about two weeks now, but then we live in Alabama. LOL So glad you got your car back! It’s like your own bed, there’s just nothing like the one you own. Hugs, M

Hmm. Ideal time for us to plant tomatoes was last week, supposedly, but I’m in Bama! 🙂

“Travels with a Donkey” sounds kinduv interesting…. assuming it’s a real donkey?? :o) !! I’m glad you got your car back. And taking it slowly as you get your strength and energy back is a good thing!! This society needs more of us to show it how to slow down, anyhow! :o) !! hugs, Weesprite

I would google the tomatoe plants especially in your zone. I have a neighbor who just plants hers in a big planter. She always has tons of them so I reap from her planting too.

Well, we are planting tomato plants tomorrow, which we bought today, assuming we get the vegetable garden patch cleared out and the new soil assimilated into last year’s mulch. Next weekend is Memorial weekend after all! Here in Minnesota we usually have everything planted by then. OH, glad you got your blue Kia back, and glad you are no longer having to deal with the beeps! Hugs,
