MRI

After I checked in at the place where I was going to have the MRI, I was sitting in the waiting area filling out yet more paperwork when a very nice young man came in to take it and tell me to take off everything I was wearing above the waist and put on one of the hospital gowns. After he had gone, I remarked to the other woman in there that he was a very confident young man to be able to tell a woman to take off her bra without blushing or stammering!

The MRI this afternoon was really horrid. Not because it hurt because it didn’t, but even though they gave me earphones, the noise was horrible. First my head was MRI’d as is and then I was pulled out, given an injection of contrast in my left arm and pushed back again to endure some more squeals and bangs. I have had these things before so when I was asked about my previous experiences, I said, "Breath deeply, keep calm and remember, the noise will eventually stop!" What I wish I had remembered was to take an ativan before I went in. Even with the ear protectors, the noise towards the end was giving me stabbing pains through my head and by the time I got through, my shoulders were hurting from stress. Fortunately, I have a massage tomorrow!

On a better note, I got a letter this morning from the doctor I saw a few days ago telling me there was absolutely no sign of anything wrong on the Xray! I had about figured that out myself after I stopped panicking but it was nice of her to reassure me.

I’m glad your x-rays showed nothing wrong! :o) !! I’ve never had an MRI….they sure don’t sound very pleasant. I hope you don’t need any more of ’em…. at least not for a good long time! hugs, Weesprite

I’m glad the xrays came out fine. That sounds painful! I hate loud sounds and they make me jump and they give me a headache. I hope you get better.

Good news about your x-rays. And, yes, I remember that the only MRI that I ever had was LOUD!! I sure hope everything turns out OK.

Glad the xrays came out okay. 🙂

Glad your xrays came out well!!!!! And yes, the noise during am MRI is horrible. One time when I had one not only did I have to listen to the noise of the machine, but they also had this terrible tape or CD of seagulls. OMG, talk about leaving there with a headache!!!! Hugs, M

Oops, Almost forgot. I like the new picture!!!! M

Wow, that sounds really unpleasant. Thank god it’s over. I hope nothing bad shows up.

LOVE your new picture!!! Hooray for good results…we all knew it would be, but it’s nice to have it confirmed. 🙂

Well you must be glad to have that over – sounds awful. I love your new pic up there – I tell you if I look like that when I’m your age I’ll be well pleased!!

That’s terrific about the x-ray. What a relief that must be. I’ve had mris, and the only way I can cope is to do a lot of very deep breathing and then having a good case of the shakes afterward, as loud bangs are one of the triggers I get for panic attacks.

Good…and hopefully nothing wrong with the MRI either. The MRI was an awful experience…it is something that seems to take a lot of concentration to endure. A bit like a root canal.

Glad it’s over. I so don’t like MRI’s. But what they provide is absolutely fabulous. Hang in there. My gut says this will all be ok in the end. And I WANT your massage!!!! Love ya! ~M

I’ve had to have many contrast MRIs on my brain… I’m a weirdo: I can actually sleep through them!

It’s too bad that they cannot figure out a way to block the noise more.

I don’t think I’d do well with this. I can’t lie still for any length of time. Glad your x-rays were OK.

I am so sorry that it was a bad experience for you. I have had one and swore that I’d never have another. I never knew I was claustrophobic and hated closed in spaces until I had that test! Enjoy your massage today! (((Hugs)))

I’ve only had one MRI and remember it to be a noisy experience. I guess it helps that I’m a little hard of hearing.

So glad that everything is ok. I don’t remember noise when I had the MRI……..maybe it was a different test.

I know about MRIs all too well, had one last Friday myself. 45 minutes of this stuff. I hate that machine, but I know its over eventually. I’ll call Monday to find out my results… hopefully.

For most people the worst part of an MRI isn’t the noise, it’s the claustrophobia. And I really like the new picture – yes you’ve probably had it up awhile but I’ve been remiss in keeping up with my OD friends. 🙁
