Mostly Physical Therapy
- My IMac has a voice which tells me the time every half hour so I knew it was 8:30 when I went into the kitchen this morning to make coffee and toast-and-Marmite. After I had done this, I realized I had stood without feeling the need to sit on the strategically-placed stools I have around — for ten whole minutes. To put this into perspective, I usually stand for a very short time —perhaps a minute and a half on good days, and then the rest of the food prep is done from a sitting position. Physical therapy works! What has given me the incentive to do the homework was first, I saw how just a short time of PT a day helped Fred so much and secondly, Jill {present PT person}, telling me she felt that it was a distinct possibility that I would be able to go back to walking… I know there are no guarantees but I am very encouraged by the improvement in my ability to stand without pain and to walk without having to lean on the cane. I am also aware that just because I got ten minutes this morning doesn’t mean I will get 15 minutes {or even 10} minutes of no-pain standing tomorrow, but I am noticing that now the pattern seems to be not two steps forward and one step back but more like four steps forward and one step back…
- As I was getting my breakfast this morning, I found I was gazing blankly into a cupboard where the plates are stacked and wondering why I opened this cupboard. Then I realized there was a plastic bag tucked up at the side of the plates and in it were the spare doohickies I had bought for holding the bookshelf shelves! Now, I have to wonder WHY I put them by the plates in a kitchen cupboard because there seems NO logic to that, but there they were! I immediately took them out and put them on one of the shelves of the big bookcase. After I am through here, I will fix the wobbly shelf and put back all the art stuff it dumped on the floor yesterday!
- Physical therapy at 1 PM this afternoon. I am quite looking forward to it. Last time, Jill had me lying on my back with a big ball under my calves while simultaneously trying do a tight pelvic tilt, NOT hold my breath and to lift one of my legs! This is, I can tell you, quite difficult for me at the moment, but it will get better. I continue with PT until around the middle of July…

I told my doctor the exact same thing yesterday. It’s nice to feel like I’m going 4 steps forward and only 1 back.

I’m so glad the therapy is helping you so much. I remember when you walked a lot in Vermont. It’s too hot to walk here now. Every day for the last 10 days we have had over 100 degree temps and at 2:40 am it is 81 outside. I’ve been sleeping a lot since my son was here for almost a week, it tires me out sometimes when he is here but I didn’t do much this time he was here. I have a neck problem that has bothered me with severe pain at times and I sleep I’m the day and don’t sleep much at night. I have to change this. Going to the Dr in the morning.
