Morning Entry

Time: 8:08 am

Energy Level: High

Positives for the day:

  • Homework is done
  • when today’s class is over, there will only be five more
  • it is not snowing
  • I am remembering that a good experience in class today  is all about my attitude.

Physically I feel: Not too bad

Mentally I feel: Positive about today’s class
It is NOT snowing! But it is raining. However, rain doesn’t bother me. I lived in Mississippi for over 30 years and have driven in downpours {"chunk-floaters"} that had cautious drivers {like me} sheltering under overpasses on the interstates. Of course, non-cautious drivers just zoomed though it all despite the fact that visibility was about two inches in front of one’s nose! I hope this rain is the last of winter. I am SO ready for Spring!
I have been saying to myself that I will go back to portion control after I have had my hip surgery and when I can walk again. But yesterday I decided that I need to do this part of losing weight right now. I am easing into it by keeping a record but not measuring. Next week I will measure and keep a record and then I will calorie-count. I don’t really expect to lose weight like this but mostly I don’t want to gain any more. I can still wear my size 14 jeans, but they ARE tight around my thighs and my waist. I will NOT let myself go back to 18-20 sizes. Size 14 is a good size for me and I have managed to stay here almost 2 years with little effort. But now I can’t walk, the weight is creeping back on and this has to stop. As soon as I am able to walk again without pain, the weight will come off. So, although I have to have the surgery first, I am looking forward to the prescribed walking!
Ok, I need to do the following:

  • find my shoes "Where are my shoes?" "Wherever you took them off, I suppose!" {my son and I had this conversation many times as he was growing up!}
  • pack my school bag
  • tidy my notebook before I pack my bag. I have a bad habit of putting handouts, etc inside a book instead of in the right place. The only folder I AM meticulous about is the homework folder and it pays off. I have work to be handed in on the left and work retured on the right. When la prof mentions she didn’t have a grade for piece of work for me, I was able to find it on the right and hand it to her so she could record the grade!
  • finish breakfast. So far I have had a banana and a bottle of water. Now I will have a piece of toast with Marmite and a cup of coffee.

QUOTATION: Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Falling off the weight bandwagon is easy to do. In the CDs I’m listening to, she talks about “thinking yourself thin.” I understand what she’s saying, but I’m not sure I entirely believe it. She says she eats whatever she wants and stays thin. The question is, what doe she *want*? It’s certainly an interesting concept.

I’ve already made myself a promise that I will be joining Weight Watchers when I move up to libe with J. I have seen my mother’s fantastic success… and I need something very structured to get myself back on track. I’m determined.

Good for you, for starting to eat a bit different now. I have found that I feel healthier….just knowing I am feeding my body foods that are good for it, over the past week! May this be good day for you! hugs, Weesprite

For me, maintaining my weight is even harder than losing…. so I think you’ve done great to maintain for 2 years, and now you’re recognizing that you need to step up the effort to keep on that path. It’s got to be frustrating when you can’t exercise, but I think you are up to the challenge!

When I came off of the prednisone two years ago I dropped 50lbs. without even trying. I kept it off until they put me back on the dreaded drug about 4 months ago. It has crept back on and until I come off of it there is not really much I can do about it. 🙁 HUgs, M

portion control is so important. i don’t eat any fast food anymore cause it’s such a large amount and i find i can’t say no to finishing it all. just 5 more classes!!! take care,

🙂 great attitude – great homework done! I’m intrigued to hear about the class today. Good initiative with the portion control. I know its boring but your recovery may also be quicker if you have prevented the weight from creeping on. It will certainly be easier for you during the time when you can’t walk.

What’s a chunk floater? Do I want to know?! 😉 Be well,

RYN: “Lion Tamer” — Can I use that line the next time someone asks me what I do for a living???? LOVE IT! It’s true — my little “angels” don’t see that their actions have consequences. Their lack of action also has major consequences and they don’t see that!!! It really drives me nuts when they look at me with that blank expression. aahhh!!!! I teach Art and Digital Photo.. Nice to see that you like taking pics! 🙂
