Morning Entry

Last night, I slept badly. I got up twice and finished up by taking a whole Klonopin rather than half a one.

Yesterday, I really enjoyed the walk down to the library and the book club meeting. Who knew we could have found so much to discuss about Alice in Wonderland! I usually toss my book club purchases in a box and then when I have enough, I list them on Freecycle. This one is staying in the permanent collection!

Our next book is The Alienist by Caleb Carr. We learned last night that it was not actually the book Martha thought she was suggesting! Apparently she read a book at her sister’s house and enjoyed it but forgot its title. When she called her sister to ask what it was, her sister said it was this one, but, Martha said, now she is reading it, it wasn’t that one at all! Well, as I pointed out, one benefit from the reading club is that we read books we would never chosen for ourselves and this is a prime example!

Next month it is time to offer suggestions for the following year. Hmmm I think I will perhaps suggest something by Robin Hobbs. But, maybe not. Science fiction/fantasy is not everyone’s cup of tea. And, apropos of Robin Hobbs’s trilogies, I absolutely gave up on Amanda the Librarian and interlibrary loans and ordered the ones I want  from Amazon. AND, I told her this last night although I didn’t tell her I had given up on her. I asked her to cancel the interlibrary loan request because I had decided to purchase the books.

My neighbor told me an interesting story re this problem. When I worked at the library, he had given us a list of about 15 to 20 books he wanted to read. When he was about half-way through with the two he had out, he would tell us and we would check in interlibrary loans for the next two on the list so when he came in with the returned one, we had two ready for him. {THis is a free service offered to all patrons and not something special we did for him. And, although he was not required to pay postage back to the borrowing library, he ALWAYS gave us a dollar for postage for each book.} Apparently, even though he tells her when he is ready for his books, Amanda wasn’t doing this. So, Guy {our neighbor} apparently complained to the city manager. And now, he is getting his books.

Amanda is a sweet person with good intentions but she doesn’t follow through unless she is pushed and pushed and pushed! An example of this was these Robin Hobbs books I have been requesting for, oh, about six weeks now. When I asked her after the first two weeks, she told me the library she had requested from had said they were out. Ok, these things happen. When I  did the interlibrary loans, I usually canceled the request and tried another library and I ALWAYS called the library patron and told him or her what I had done and an approximate time I thought the book would be. Apparently she didn’t do this. I asked again for the status two weeks later and it was then she canceled the first request and checked another library!
Today it is cooler–much cooler!

Today I will pack a couple more boxes of books and go fo a walk.

Today we are going to look at a local car Fred is considering buying…

My library is great about interlibrary loans. I will put in a request online, and usually within a couple of days they call to let me know it’s there. The weather has cooled off a little here too. I’m so thankful, I couldn’t handle another 100+ day.

I wonder how Amanda even got that job. Seems like you were MUCH better at it than she is.

Mike never thought he would read scifi/fantasy until I got him reading some of mine and now he not only got into reading it but he got his mother and sister into it as well. Its finally cooler here too.

Much cooler there, huh? Lucky you. It’s supposed to be 98 here today. yuck!

Yesterday it was 105+ here. It was miserable. I didn’t even want to leave the house. Thank you for mentioning the library. I need to check to see if my books are due. 🙂

Alice in Wonderland, I read in a senior seminar class on British Satire, in college. So I learned to read it in a very different way from how I’d read it as a child! I’m glad you enjoyed your library walk and book club meeting yesterday. Here’s hoping you have much enjoyment in this day, too! :o) !! hugs, Weesprite

I’m glad it’s cooler there! 🙂 <3 Annie-Rae

it’s supposed to finally cool down here tomorrow… the day after my moving truck gets here of course:)

Oh! I LOVED the Alienist. It’s a little Victorian-gory, but very, very interesting! I read Carr’s other novel, which has the same characters and takes place after the Alienist, and enjoyed that one, too! It’s a pretty dense read, though, especially if you read like I do–just before bed!

hi patrisha, i’m considering buying my first bread machine because i don’t have the time to bake and frankly, i don’t consider myself a good cook. i know you love your bread machine. how easy is it to make bread and clean your machine?

I hope it cools down over here. I’m melting!

I’m smilin, here:) He has beenn reading the book to me for 5 years now – I never tire of discussing it with him which if prolly why it has taken him so long to finish reading it to ne:)

As you note, here, it’s on yer mind and disturbing your sleep and the heat -unttil today – can’t be helping either:( I’m glad to discover that I read the same entry twice and that the guy downstairs has not begun to play loud music on a daily basis!!! I saw Fred’s car – mawvalous dawlin:) Vista Way

RYN: Thanks for stoppin’ by & noting. I’m hoping that I can point those kind of things out to the kids & they “get it” 🙂

Hm… Amanda needs to get with the program,eh? I really enjoyed The Alienist, and I hope you do, too. I see from your interests that you like crime dramas like I do, so it’s possible. 🙂

a book club seems to be a great idea – perhaps i should try this whrn i get back to kent.
