More PT Stuff

I am learning a lot at physical therapy {as well as being worked until I break out in a sweat!} This morning I was standing on a thick piece of foam to improve my balance when Leslie told me to move more weight to my left foot. As I did that, immediately I grabbed onto her because I felt off balance. Then she got me to stand in front of a mirror{still on the thick foam pad}  and get into a standing position where I feel balanced. She then said, "Look at your shoulders."

I was amazed to see that the left one was higher that the right one. Not really noticeably, but  it was quite clear when I had my attention drawn to it.I have been walking favoring my left leg for so long that a standing position that really is off balance feels like a balanced one! So, one more body part to be aware of when I walk!

I wanted to write about this so that I will remember it.

So, I am off to make the bed and then watch the rest of "Serenity" which I started last night. After that, I will do my at-home exercises while I am watching reruns of "Judging Amy." Since we did the lying on my side and lifting the left leg exercise today, I probably will have too much discomfort go for a walk. Hmmm, maybe half a mile? The weather is fantastic!

Pool therapy tomorrow!

I am so envious of your talk of great weather. It is *so* miserable here right now. This morning Merlin and I were able to do our walk, but the nighttime walk iso ut of the question!! PT is always a time to learn a ton about your body. I learned a lot about all the parts, even the ones not being rehabillitated.

It is amazing how intricate such a “simple” matter as walking is! We are having perfectly sublime weather here today also! hugs, Weesprite

yes, interesting how we compensate isn’t it. Glad you have a good therapist who can show you.

I remember E using the foam. Has she had you walk on it heel toe yet? E had a hard time of that one because of the whole balance issue. Not only was his hip healing but he has diabetic neuropathy very badly in his feet and this also causes him to have balance issues. I LOVE Judging Amy! Wish they had reruns on the regular channels! It is amazing how we compensate and how it becomes the normal that is not really normal.

I am just amazed that this whole damn country hasn’t developed a pronounced lean to the hard left with this messed up administration!!! You just have a huge mirror to stand in front of to notice. have fun…dan

So how is the side-lying, leg lifting exercise coming that was giving you so much pain last week? Any improvment there? One of my teachers specializes in “Deep Tissue” which is also known as Rolfing. the technique basically puts the muscles that have become distorted from favoring something that has been in pain back to where they belong. It’s amazing stuff, but the class was really hard on my hands, so I don’t think I could do very much of it.

The weather was pretty good today, nice and cool, if a bit on the grey side, and now they’re saying that by the weekend we’ll be up to the 90’s again. Very strange. I’m glad that the PT person caught the shoulders. Amazing what they can find out these days.
