More of the Same

  • So, it is still raining and the trees are tossing around in the wind, but it isn’t really bad as yet. I am hoping it won’t be bad. But I now hear the wind rising enough to be rattling the windows…
  • Do you know how embarrassing it is to put a chair cushion on the floor to kneel on and to have the said cushion be covered in dust and grubby stuff when it is taken up? I had to do a lot of crawling around beside and behind my computer because the actual phone line that was plugged into the old machine had lost the little clip that held it in. This meant that  I had to first find a new line and then take out the old one and replug the new one to the wall plug and the answering machine. Luckily, Fred is pretty organized in some things and one of them is that he had a box with this kind of stuff in it and the word "Telephone" written thereon!
  • Anyway, the base part of the phone is installed next to my computer where the other one was and the two others are set up and working. There is one handset right by Fred’s chair and the other is in the kitchen. So far, I really like the phone. It has big buttons and a way to have five preset numbers accessed by buttons. Our previous machine didn’t have either of these. I have glanced at the instruction book but decided I don’t want to do any more today so I will program the handsets tomorrow.
  • Fred and I were just remarking to each other that we will be totally lost if we lose power! NO computers? And also no hot food since the stove is electric… But no computers is worse.
  • I have just remembered that if we followed our usual schedule, to day would have been a massage day for me! of course, I would have called and canceled! But she told me that she had a previous commitment today so we already changed the massage to next Sunday…
  • I was up around 6 this morning so I am going to lie on the bed and read, and if a nap happens, that will be good, too!

"We don’t just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary." – Booker T. Washington.

"We are taught you must blame your father, your sisters, your brothers, the school, the teachers – but never blame yourself. It’s never your fault. But it’s always your fault, because if you wanted to change you’re the one who has got to change." — Katherine Hepburn

It’s amazing how much we depend on electricity and technology. I heard that someone posted on Facebook yesterday that the people in the hurricane’s path might be forced to go outside and talk to their neighbors, but not to worry….it’s just like facebook. Somebody says something, and then you just respond. LOL! Funny, but also very true. We sit inside and interact through the internet.

at least you will have your Kindle.:) I hope Irene is nice to you!

It sounds as if Irene could have been worse? I hope so.

I saw Vermont in the path of Irene and immediately thought of both you and Fred. I hope that you will both keep safe, and not lose power.

I hope you and Fred are OK and didn’t lose your power. Sounds like an awful lot of people did…. I like the Katherine Hepburn quotation….it’s a good one.

I would not like having no electricity either! The thing I’d miss most (at this time of year) would be the AC!! And then the computer, tied with the stove and microwave! I really don’t care that much for cold food. After a summer of eating cold sandwiches for my lunch at the park on workdays…. I have had my fill of cold stuff! hugs, Nicky

Oh yes – no computers would be worse. 🙂

Most of Art’s clients bring their computers to us because when he goes to their homes, he gets so dirty. Everyone doesn’t keep their computer area very clean. I am glad that you are alright after the hurricane.

I’m imagining you have no computers, but I’m hoping you are ok. Waiting for an update from either one of you and thinking of you.

Hi Patricia, not sure if you remember me. We were diary friends I think back when I was ~Ladybug~..i’ve had so many diaries. i’m embarassed 🙁 anyway I hope its ok that I add your diary to my new diary so i can keep reading.

I hope you’re alright! I heard what’s happened in the area where you live!

ryn: no, he didn’t hear anything. I guess they hired someone else. It would be nice if they’d at least call and let the other interviewees know. He said it doesn’t really matter to him. That was my main worry; I didn’t want him to feel bad if he didn’t get it. Thanks for asking! hugs, Nicky

Hoping you and Fred are OK.
