More “Fun” With Technology

So today is the day when my email address changes from username@verizon.net to sameusername@myfairpoint.net. According to an email I got from Fairpoint, all I had to do was to go to the Fairpoint netmail site, put in my usermail@fairpoint.net address and the same password and all would proceed with joy and happiness abounding!

I put my new email address and of course, it didn’t work! Are we surprised?  Of course not! So, I called the 800  number and after waiting a long time listening to music got to talk to a person who eventually decided that he needed to talk to his supervisor. He very nicely asked me if I minded waiting; however, since I had been waiting 20 minutes already, I wasn’t going to let anyone get away until my problem was solved so I told him I would wait! He came back  after 10 minutes of music and said the problem seemed to be that when I had joined Verizon, they had given me a weird email address which started with vze, had a couple of numbers in there and ended in "iw" and was, of course, completely unpronounceable and very hard to remember. So, of course, I had changed it to what Verizon called an alias which was something I could remember.

Anyway, he said that all the information re the present verizon address would have to be put in by hand, or at least, I think that’s what he said. At this point he could have told me anything!  So, apparently things were being done over the course of the next 15 {I counted} minutes while I listened to music and he kept checking back to see if I was still there!  At last, he told me that it seemed to be working now and I said, "Good, so you can help me with setting up Thunderbird now!" Anyway, to make this long story shorter, 50 minutes later, he thanked me for being so patient and I thanked him for all the help and, it seems, I have email again. And I have spent hours going to all the sites I regularly hear from and changing my email address. {Which reminds me, I must let Open Diary know my address has changed}

In addition, I have:

  • packed up the duplicate book I accidentally ordered from Amazon and had it picked up by the mailperson
  • cleared 8 inches of snow off my car from two days ago and moved it behind Fred’s so I can get out to get a massage tomorrow
  • had a lovely meatloaf sandwich for lunch! {Fred made a lovely meat loaf yesterday}

I hate waiting, but I seem to have to do it, too, any time I call anyone for some kind of business. I was on hold for an hour with the IRS the other day! I’m glad you were able to get your email set up and ready to go! Fred’s meatloaf sounded good to me. His recipe is somewhat like the one I use.

Sometimes I hate tech support. An HOUR on the phone? I’d go mad!

I would have been clawing the walls! You are much more patient than I am.

I hate it when they put you on hold for what seems like forever!! Glad it’s all straightened out though! Mmmmm, I LOVE meatloaf sammiches!!! Hugs,M

I am SO glad for you it has been resolved.

ooh, I admire your perseverance…. I don’t know if I’d have had enough patience or fortitude to wait that long or not!! (Though if it had anything to do with Internet, I suppose I would’ve….) At least you had a real person coming back to check on you from time to time. I hate it when I’m on hold and a recording keeps popping in to thank me for my patience. Because I’m NOT PATIENT, and some of the things I say to those recordings should never be repeated! hugs, Nicky

Waiting is the pits and that’s after you follow recorded instructions that takes 15mins. sigh…is this technical age really progress. I hope so! I have the habit of pre-ordering a book from B&N and then stopping by the store and buying it again. What a dingbat I am but my recent entry might explain that. They are always cordial when I take it back but I feel so stooopid.Taz makes the only meatloaf he will eat. I’d rather eat it the next day as a sandwich.What’s your husband’s recipe?Let’s compare. Love,
