Monday Stuff **Edited**

Last night I was poking around on Amazon and found myself looking at breadmakers. I really don’t know why because the one I have is adequate for our needs. Anyway, I was reading what customers wrote about one that had a few features I liked when I came across something that made me strike my head and do a Homer Simpson “Doh!”

A couple of people had written a complaint about the kneading paddle being difficult to get out of the cooked loaf and one writer said , “Well, when the machine has finished the last knead, I just open the top and lift up the dough and retrieve the paddle!” So simple! So obvious! So today when I put the ingredients for a two-pound white loaf in the bread maker, I first remembered to set it for 2 pounds, and then when the machine had completed its appointed kneads, I reached in there, lifted up the dough  and got the paddle! I will let you know how it all comes out!

Edit! The bread came out of the machine perfect! it was very easy to take out, too!

Since today is Monday, I got my exercise by going up and down two flights of stairs and putting clothes into the washer and dryer. I will walk on the treadmill this afternoon. Or, I may actually go out. The sun is shining and the temperature is 10 degrees but feels like minus 4 with a 12 mph wind coming from the north. Well, perhaps not, then. I went down to take out the trash about an hour ago and it was very cold. Of course, I was wearing my indoor clothes so I was feeling the cold more than I would if I was properly dressed for it. {How’s that for an obvious statement! LOL} I love Vermont but I do get tired of winter which goes on for such a long time here.

This to do today:

  1. Wash, dry and put away clothes. {Washing and drying done but Fred’s clothes are put away and mine are stillon my side of the bed ready for me to put them away.}
  2. Make another loaf of bread. {Done–well my part is anyway. The machine is still on.}
  3. Ongoing decluttering for today: Sort out the boxes in the corner saved for a day when we might want them. Since we haven’t used them for the five-going-on-six years I have been here, I think I am pretty safe in saying that we won’t want them. Since this is Vermont, they have to be broken down for recycling. This is not a difficult job but it is time-consuming. Then I have to get them downstairs into one of the two recycleable-stuff bins. In theory, Mike has said he empties these every week. In actual fact, it is more like every ten days of so…

I-Poddery:

  • “I Don’t Believe In If Any More” Roger Whittaker
  • “The Pianist” Carnival of the Animals Camille Saint Sains
  • “Ain’t No Cure for Love” Sung by Jennifer Warnes but written by Leonard Cohen
  • “For Emily” Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel
  • “Goodbye to Love” The Carpenters

Until later…

That really IS an obvious solution. I think I’ve heard it before, but I’ve been too lazy to actually utilize it. Miss Song Mistress: What would be a good song to play as background music for a photo video thing that has to do with a baby shower? I might do one for after the baby is born.

Duh. WHat an obvious but intelligent solution. Will have to tell my mother about that one as she always complains of the paddle making the bread look ugly.

I’ve just got to get an iPod. But also a computer that lets me download songs. My son took that one away to school with him.

Wow, what a simple solution to the paddle problem. I don’t think I would have thought of it on my own. I’m going to get my bread machine upstairs and put it to use – very soon. I think this every time I read about you making bread. I wonder if my yeast is still good? I keep tossing yeast out when it is outdated and then buying more.

It’s about time you got rid of those boxes if they are five years old! 🙂 Well, good for you. I got rid of a few things today, too. Tomorrow is garbage/recycling day.

Looks like the bread thing worked for you .

You’ve just reminded me that I was going to download Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens ages ago & forgot so I did it tonight – and came across some other great classical music while I was doing it so thanks!

My paddle stays in the machine 99% of the time. Taking it out though would leave a smaller hole in the loaf. Must try it sometime if I think of it in time.

Well I am glad I read your entries before buying my own breadmaker! Now I’ll know what to do! This’ll definitely help allay some fussing on my part! about your current IPOD songs….oooh, “For Emily” is the most beautiful song, isn’t it? You reminded me to put my Simon & Garfunkel CD in tonight! 🙂 hugs, Weesprite

I just recently stuck Goodbye to Love on mine too.

I’m adding a bread maker to my wish list. Any suggestions? Have they improved much over the years? I would like to make smaller loaves, as it’s only the three of us. I like darks and rye, Hero likes white. CC doesn’t care.

we’re thinking of buying one too. I don’t know how much they are though

ryn: Ha ha! Jean Auel’s ‘pot-boiler’! I couldn’t agree more, and the sexual intercourse descriptions, which are rather frequent and take more than two pages to complete, are so appalling as to make me cringe! Looking at the photo of Ms Auel on the inside cover, it really does rather make me wonder… ’nuff said 😉

For gosh sake, Patrisha, stay inside in this stuff. It’s brutal out there — and what we have here in PA, you always get more of & colder, too. Though the temps have been in the low digits this week. I think an actual temperature of about 5 degrees was our lowest, but with windchill was much worse. HATE THIS STUFF!! Love, Anna

Mmmmm… homemade bread. Good carbs, to keep the body warm. Could you e-mail me some? 🙂

I really should do as you do, and make a list. I have found that it can be very helpful, and it helps to mark off what you have done. Take care.
