Monday

For some reason, today was a high-energy day and I not only went up and down the stairs to the washer and dryer many times, but I also got in TWO walks. The first one was fifty minutes and the second thirty. And my reward for all of this was a pedometer reading of 11019!

This is not the best I have ever done {that was 12000 plus} but it is very satisfying nontheless. I wish there was something I could link as a cause-and-effect for these few high-energy days I have. I know I feel better when the weather is cold and when the sun is out. Today’s temperature when I went out this afternoon was 22 degrees {feels like 13} but there was no sunshine. In fact on both walks it was snowing very very lightly.

Yesterday Fred made the best pork meatloaf I have ever tasted. He is very much a pinch-of-this and a let’s-try-that cook whereas I tend to be a follow-the-recipe-slavishly type of cook. Anyway, this had pork {of course} apple sauce, an egg, lots of onions, some sweet red peppers, and instead of the breadcrumbs and just because I had left the packet out, some Grapenuts! I had some of it with salad last night and a slice today for lunch. I told him that this was definitely worth repeating. I am hoping to have some freshly-made Fred’s Famous Oatmeal for my evening meal. He usually makes at least six cups of it at a time and that is my breakfast for a week. I ran out the day before yesterday so he says he will make some tonight. It is good when it is reheated in the microwave but it is delicious eaten freshly made. He makes it with apples, cinnamon, raisins and sunflower seeds. When he eats it, he adds brown sugar and cream but that is not only too sweet for me, it is too many calories, too!

Tomorrow, Fred gets his phone interview with a nurse. Today I told him I wanted to make a card with the phone numbers of his two daughters and his friend, Bill, on it so that I can call them and tell them that he made it safely through the surgery. I will also call my sister and brother-in-law and let them know. In addition, he has some email friends whose addresses he will give me so I can let them know he has survived it.

Or not. But we are not talking about that although the concern is there for both of us.

Until later…

Good job on the walking, the meatloaf sounds fab! and *huggs* you sound like you need it as much as I do.

Sometimes I mix dry oatmeal into my meatloaf…I like it better than breadcrumbs. Poor Fred. This has to be soooo nerve wracking! Sending you both good thoughts… Love ya! ~M

Yeah, “that part” is the elephant in the living room that no one wants to address. Many thoughts and prayers sent to Vermont for you!

Isn’t oatmeal the best this time of the year? I put frozen raspberries in mine and then cook it in the microwave for a minute or two. It’s so yummy. And makes it more bearable. The meatloaf sounds delisious.

There but hiding. I can understand that.

wow can Fred cook for me? 🙂

So Fred probably doesn’t have a recipe for his oatmeal? How does he fix it? I don’t like plain oatmeal but his sounds good.

I like how you phrase things. That oatmeal sounds scrumptious, but I don’t know if I would like leftover oatmeal.

I can understand you and Fred not wanting to talk about certain things. His oatmeal sounds better than mine because I forget to get the sunflower seeds. Try pinning down Fred on his oatmeal ‘recipe’ and his meatloaf ‘recipe’. You can share them with us and all around the country — maybe the world, people will be cooking Fred’s Famous Oatmeal and Fred’s Marvelous Meatloaf. 🙂

Yeah – you’re all American now for sure if you’re using the word Oatmeal! lol An American friend of mine was really keen to try one of our British dishes that he’d heard of: porridge. Imagine his horror when we served it to him and he realised that it’s exactly the same thing as the oatmeal he so hated back home… 🙂

That meatloaf sounds just odd enough to taste good. Here’s to many more high energy days.
