Miscellaneous Evening Stuff

When I took a look at the other stuff I had bought this morning, I had forgot to mention the 4 forty-watt bulbs for 77 cents and the digital timer. The bulbs I bought because that is a very good price and we use a lot of 40 watt bulbs. When I lived in Mississippi, I lived a long way from any place where I could buy stuff one always runs out of so I learned to buy such things as light bulbs and matches in bulk. And even though the nearest store is five minutes away in a car, I still feel uncomfortable when I don’t have a stock, no matter how small, of light bulbs !

The digital timer is, I hope, one of those that makes a “demented chicken” sound. I had one but knocked it off the refrigerator door one day and killed it. Mostly I use the timer for reminding me I have laundry in the washer and dryer on Mondays and, of course, the gingerbread has to be timed. Right after I broke the original one, I went to the supermarket and got a replacement because it was a Monday and I needed that timer. This replacement  has a pleasant, quiet buzz which goes on for 20 seconds and then stops all by itself. If I was in the bathroom, I would never hear it. So, although I haven’t tried it yet, I am hoping this digital one is like the old one. I NEED the demented “cheep-cheep-cheep” and I need it to not cut off until I go over and shut it off. If it doesn’t meet those criteria, back it goes!

Fred has become very interested in reading my diary and I am still trying to sort out how I feel about this. One the one hand, I am pleased that he is finding my point of view of our life interesting enough to read but on the other hand, I am wondering how open I can be now I know he is reading. I have decided that it is going to make NO difference to how I write. This is my diary and I will put in it what I choose to put in it. I am not saying that in a nasty way, but, just as I did before I invited him to read, if I have a complaint, if I am having a bad day–it will go in here as it did before…

Tomorrow I tutor Robin from 10 until 11 am and then in the afternoon, I go to the art class. I sketched out my cactus yesterday and in the beginning, I didn’t do well. To my eyes, I can see that the part where I began is painfully overworked. As I got into it more I was much more relaxed and although that part of it is perhaps sketchier, it is definitely better art… Tomorrow we learn about composition and add charcoal to our materials.

Yesterday I made a two-cheeses loaf and one that has bits of red onion in it. Today is the first day I tried the red-onion bread as toast . Eaten as ordinary sandwich bread, it is rather uninteresting, but eaten toasted, it is, like the cheese bread, excellent! It will be made again. I made it as the recipe said with a medium crust but I think it might do better with a dark crust setting. It seems very fragile and breaks easily when it is sliced. I have no idea why some bread is robust and some is fragile. I need to do some more reading on the ingredients for bread, I think…

Until later…

Surprising how toasting an “ordinary” bread brings out all those good flavors, isn’t it. Cheese with onion sounds yummy.

Every time I read about your bread-making, I nearly drown in my own version of Pavlov’s dog hearing a bell.

Some people are just comfortable with a “stash” of certain items like light bulbs. My dad…my sister…my friend. Me – I missed getting the “stash” gene!

My dryer has a buzzer that goes off when the clothes are dry. If you don’t go right away the dryer continues on a cool cycle and buzzes again a couple of times so that you have a chance to get the clothes out without wrinkles. I had a lightbulb moment (must have been your stash) when you mentioned timer. I have one and could use it to remind me when my washer is finished so that I don’t forget

and leave my load of wet clothes in the machine all day….like I did today.

Speaking of Fred – is he going to make another entry soon? 🙂 Goodness, that bread sounds good. I’d love to see your cactus sketch, and any others you do. Well…off to play online Scrabble with Jo!

my timer cuts off before I go over & turn it off. I seem to go through a lot of timers. I like the idea of keeping it on the fridge. I always keep mine on the hood over the stove. I think the fridge may be better…

I’ve learned to use small timers that I carry with me, so that I have them with me when they go off. From desk to kitchen and back again, my timer goes with me. It’s the only thing that works for me, for sure

🙂

hubby has on occasion read stuff that I have written here, he knows I write about him! Lizzie of course reads it all the time. It does affect how I write sometimes, but not too much. 🙂

ryn: Thanks! I love your notes, and I enjoy your OD, too! No question you were a keeper! 😉

HI Patrisha, that IS interesting, that Fred has started reading your diary. Maybe he should start one of his own! It could be very therapeutic for him! But, a bit like you, I am not too comfortable about people close to me reading my diary. After all, it’s mine!!! But do proceed without inhibiting your expressions!! Love, Anna

I’d never have to worry about Joe reading my diary; he’d have absolutely zero interest in reading anything online. I do worry somewhat about my daughter Carrie reading it, though, and am not able to express certain thoughts about her in here. I’m sure Fred will enjoy most of your thoughts; you speak candidly about him and your relationship but well of it, too. hugs, Weesprite
