Miscellanea

  • I spent a lot of today napping. When I was in the hospital, at night, I slept for maybe three hours and then read for four or five hours, then back to sleep for a couple of hours. So, you can see, I had a lot of catching up to do.
  • I HAVE mentioned how much I like my Kindle, right? Well, I tucked it into my purse when I knew the EMTs were coming and it was probably the only thing that kept me sane. BUT, I didn’t think to put in a charger! It didn’t die on me but it threatened a lot so I was thrilled to meet a nice man who brought around a rolling cart filled with books. I kept the Kindle off and read it only at night when I had to take my glasses off. It was still alive {although still telling me to recharge it} when I went home! It is now by my bed fully charged and happy!
  • And what, you may ask, was the main difference between a Kindle and a paperback? Well, with a Kindle, I can hold it in one hand and flip to the next page using my thumb. With a paperback, that is theoretically possible but not convenient. And the size of the font is not changeable in a book. And no dictionary… One of the nurses told me she was trying to decide between a Nook and a Kindle as a Christmas present for herself. I told her I knew nothing about the Nook but I would happily demonstrate the Kindle. She kept popping in between her visits to other people to let me explain to her various things I like on the Kindle…
  • You might remember that I had to change my MasterCard for a new one since the number of the old one was being used by someone who was trying to buy an expensive laptop and have it sent to California? {It wouldn’t have done him/her any good since it is linked to a small account I only use for buying stuff online and when I order, I add to the very small total the exact amount I need to cover the purchase!} Well, I thought I had had changed to the new one at every place  I buy on line but I forgot ITunes. I was trying to buy "Dance Me To the End of Love" sung by the group The Civil War and ITunes kept dumping me into My Account page. After a lot of mildly profane muttering, I realized what was going on and changed my method of payment…
  • Fred just called me with a list of things he wants me to bring tomorrow. I was able to talk to him from the hospital {he has my cell phone} but although talking on the phone is better than nothing, it is better seeing him!
  • The rehabilitation place and the therapists in the faculty where he is both encourage visitors to come down to rehab with the person and cheer him or her on. It is both fascinating and cheering to see how far Fred  has come…

Give thanks for unknown blessings already on their way.

I didn’t know you had a Kindle!! ;o) !! That was good thinking, to take it to the hospital with you…. too bad you forgot the recharger, but I’m awfully glad it didn’t run out of “juice” ’til you got back home! hugs, Nicky

Well, you just gave me one good reason to have a Kindle, and that’s so you can take 40 or 50 books with you when you expect to be confined for a long period of time. I haven’t charged my Sony reader in so long I suspect it’s probably dead. I just don’t “read” much any more with my vision giving me fits. I’m very enamored of audio books these days. It’s kind of an interesting mental exercise, though, to drive to the gym with one book on, get on the elliptical with another book, and then go back to the car. It’s SO confusing sometimes!

I love my nook and ipad. So nice to not have my hand cramp while reading, but no more reading in the bath tub! 🙂

I’m so glad you bought that song, even with all the trouble. I just adore The Civil Wars.
