Leopard, La Prof & Massage Time

It is the small things that make me happy. I discovered last night that this new operating system {Leopard} will let me right-click on pictures and use them as as my desktop picture. Of course, one can do this with most versions of Windows but with the previous version of the Mac operating system {Tiger} there was the ability to do this but it was a work-around, not the simple right-click. The other thing I have just discovered and that  I like about Leopard is that there is an icon in the dock to which documents are automatically saved. I got an email with an attachment from la professoressa Nicole {my first Italian instructor} this morning and after I had opened and  saved the attachment, I noticed that this icon had "doc" on it. I clicked, and there was the attachment document, — neatly saved on the desktop.

Ok, why la prof was writing to me. You know I have a Kindle, right?  Well, Amazon has a Kindle forum and as part of it, has a thread called See a Kindle in Your City. People who want to can write and offer to show their Kindle to anyone local who wants to see it. So, I wrote a brief entry called "See a Kindle in Burlington, VT."   Now Nicole lives in NC but she lived in Burlington, VT, for many years and so she opened this thread, found she knew the writer and and wrote a brief entry in the forum. I am tracking my entry and so Amazon sends me email when someone comments. Thus I got in touch with Nicole again. She is coming back to Burlington in August to teach a week’s immersion course in Italian, and, although I am pretty sure I won’t take it {It costs almost $200  and I would rather spend that in Kindle books}, I will meet her for coffee and a catch-up chat.

Today I go to have a scheduled massage with Beth who has been forced to move her office yet again. She had a rather nice room in a condo {not hers} in South Burlington but the owner is selling the condo so Beth has to move. This time she is back sharing with another masseuse in Burlington as she did before but I don’t think she gets on too well with this woman because she moved from there abruptly before she moved to the condo. I am now only having one massage a month so maybe she will have found something permanant before next month.

I got much of yesterday’s list done but I have as yet not tackled the mess on the floor and on the desk in this room. Maybe after the massage? One can always hope!

I’m intrigued by the Kindle. I love to read on the train – and I watch films and TV programmes too. But books are bulky and heavy. The thought of having many books with me is pretty cool. I had some books on my PDA, but I found reading from a screen slightly annoying, so I don’t know how I’d get on with a Kindle. I like turning pages… I take it you’re happy with yours? Are the booksfor the Kindle similar prices to normal books? Do you think it’s worth it?

That’s cool that Nicole found you through the Kindle forum. It really is a small world, isn’t it? YOu sound like me with your list. LOL I HAVE to pack today though whether I feel like it or not! I’m leaving tomorrow and it wouldn’t be good to leave without anything! LOL Hugs, M

Not sure the Kindle is available in the UK yet. Took a look at some of the videos about it. The idea of having an entire library in your bag is very appealing. But I don’t want to have to buy my books all over again… …still, I’m intrigued.

Beth has an eventful life. Nicole…interesting way to make contacts. You never know who will turn into a wonderful friend.

ryn: not really sure. I think about a week after the interview. Or at least thats how it works with supervisor and team lead positions. Maybe faster since this isn’t a *management* position.

oh no Patricia, I can feel it coming. You are making me FAR too interested in getting a Kindle… me who has sworn to never read a book if it isn’t a REAL book, the type you flick through the pages. Ahhh… I can feel it coming….

Isn’t that something…Kindle brought you two back together. Very nice.

Oh, you are tempting me so much with mention of the Kindle! The more I hear about it, the more it increases my desire for it. Going to Amazon does the same for me since they showcase it there. Also, I keep checking prices, so they always have it on my page! LOL Enjoy!

Whenever I see this quote, I think of you: “One can remain alive long past the usual date of disintegration if one is unafraid of change, insatiable in intellectual curiosity, interested in big things, and happy in small ways.” ~Edith Wharton
