Later on Saturday

What I HAVE done:

  • got up at 6 am
  • made bread
  • made gingerbread from scratch–an interesting experience
  • vacuumed the living room floor
  • taken a two-hour nap
  • picked up and put away the mess from the floor in front of the closet

What I HAVEN’T done:

  • walked — not outside nor on the treadmill
  • found my pedometer

The gingerbread experience was interesting. When I make something like bread, something I have made many times before, I always assemble all the ingredients on the table before I start and this includes utensils. Well, this was the first time I had made this recipe and although I did have the good sense to put all the ingredients out, I found myself in the middle of blending things together having to rummage around in the drawer for the hand mixer and the spatula which was rather annoying.

I really thought that this would be too sweet for me since it had brown sugar, molasses AND light corn syrup in the ingredients, but, much to my surprise, it actually wasn’t too sweet at all. Another interesting thing was that when I ate the first piece when it was still hot {cook’s perks}, I felt it needed more ginger. In fact when it was hot, it tasted just like cake but not like gingerbread. But when it cooled, then the just-right ginger taste was sufficient. Since I cut up and freeze cake and gingerbread, it will be interesting to see what it tastes like frozen. {Yes, I like frozen cake AND frozen grapes! Doesn’t everyone? LOL}

A couple of times today I thought about going out for a walk but rejected the idea when I looked out of the window and saw patches of ice on the road. I went out to the trash cans at the back to dump yesterday’s trash and to test the walking idea and found I had to walk looking at the ground every step of the way since there was a lot of ice. Normally, I walk on the roads in winter because the sidewalks are not safe, but I didn’t see any point in walking when even the roads have patches of ice. And by the time it got to the afternoon. I had run out of energy and so didn’t even consider the treadmill. Walking is top of the priority list for tomorrow.

Tomorrow morning, a Freecycle person {http://www.freecycle.org} is coming out between 8 am and 10 am to pick up the two CD players I am getting rid of. They were both working when I stored them but when I checked them, neither of them played the CD part although the tape part and the radio part on both were fine. They were both extremely dusty and when I advertised them on Freecycle, I was honest about what worked and what didn’t work. I am sure someone who understands how CD players work and who has the patience to fiddle with them can get them cleaned out and working again. I had five very quick emails asking for them so if this person doesn’t come tomorrow, I have a couple of backups interested in them. Even if they are both very easy to fix, I don’t want to go to the trouble, to be honest since these days I play my music through my computer or, of course, the IPod.

Tomorrow also is my massage day and, although he is not needed to Fred-sit, since now Fred is fine alone, Fred’s friend Bill is coming out to spend a couple of hours with him. Fred felt tired today and so he has had two naps but shorter ones than my two hours. He has walked around the table ten times and done two sets of his leg-strengthening exercises. He is now making gravy to go with his hamburger and watching the UVM women hockey players play Boston on the television.

I have a slightly sore arm from where I had the flu shot yesterday.  I just felt the area and thought I had a bump which would be something new for me, but when I looked, it was the band-aid! LOL I am going to leave it on so that Beth {massage person} knows where it hurts tomorrow.

Until later…

That would make me dizzy walking round and round the table. Reminds me of a nursery rhyme in the back of my mind… maybe it’s a mulberry bush… never mind. LOL!

The gingerbread sounds lovely. I haven’t made (or eaten) gingerbread in years!

mmmmmmmmmm….homemade gingerbread! I’ve only made it homemade a few times. What I would love, is gingerbread with lemon sauce on it like we used to get for lunch way back when I was in elementary school. I must find a recipe for the lemon sauce! Do you put anything on yours? I hope you get to walk tomorrow, but I sure don’t blame you for not wanting to walk on ice! hugs, Weesprite

I so enjoy reading your posts. It’s like living along with you. I always have to rummage for utensils. Especially when cooking something yummy. I think the process lets creative thoughts flow. Stay warm…

Ooooh, I so LOVE gingerbread…I can smell it from here 🙂

Gingerbread is such a yummy thing. I make gingerbread cookies from a recipe from Colonial Williamsburg. They are dry, cakey cookies, not like gingersnaps. ANd I like frozen grapes too!

I like frozen M & M’s. LOL 🙂

I love my ipod. It’s the best investment I’ve ever made. I’m slowly but surely moving my CD collection on it (I bought the 40 gig one). I use it for working out. But I’ll be able to use it on airplanes and while we’re on our cruise in March. I can smell your gingerbread. Hmmmmmmm . . .

That gingerbread sounds really good..

Hi Patrisha, I am like you in that I have to do the important things early in the day. By late afternoon & evening, my energy is spent & I won’t accomplish anything important at that point. I am so glad you stayed in & didn’t go out on the ice. And you got to bake. What fun! Anna

MMMM…gingerbread….. Thank you for your notes, Patrisha. I tend to take your advice whenever it’s left for me. I figure if I’ve learned this much in 38 years then YOU must be the smartest person on earth in my book 🙂

I’m glad that Fred is doing so well with his excercises. Sounds like he’s getting better, and better everyday. I like frozen cakes…not to sure about the grapes though. Take care, and I hope that you are having a wonderful day.
