Later in the Day
Fred and I just got back from buying a piece of furniture — what the furniture store call a three drawer high chest. We spent a huge amount of money but it was a lot easier to accept because, as usual with the household furniture we buy, we split the cost. It is absolutely beautiful. It is light wood and exactly what we need. It is going in the diningroom and after it is delivered on Saturday, I will start unpacking the last few boxes. We have one of Fred’s daughters and her family coming not this weekend but the next, and that has given us some incentive to get out and get this storage piece. I will take a picture when it is set in place. Now all we need is a computer desk for Fred. However, I don’t think we will have that before the visitors arrive!
This morning I had what was supposed to be the signing-off session with the physical therapist I went to with the trochanteric bursitis. When I got there, to my surprise it was not Becky but another woman with an English accent! We chatted for a while and it turned out that she is from Leicester and I am from Nottingham so there were several places we both knew quite well from that area. Anyway, I have another appointment because I am still at a pain level sightly higher than the baseline {which is quite low and from the arthritis in my hip}. I am also pretty sure the pain level I am feeling was higher than usual because of the stress on my hip getting back up off the floor after plugging and unplugging stuff for yesterday’s DSL setup. And also, I felt I had to admit I hadn’t been doing my exercises. Well, you don’t, do you after you feel well! But this therapist told me that it looked as if I would have to do the exercises every day in order to keep the pain at bay. And the final reason was that this therapist felt that Becky should do the sign-off since she was the therapist I had been seeing. So, In two weeks I will go back. In this two weeks I will faithfully do the exercises and I will get signed off at the next session!
Tonight I have a book club meeting . it is that time of year when we suggest books for others to read for the next year. I am going to suggest Bitter Grounds by Sandra Benitez. It is one of those stories that follow a generation and the blurb said that the readers would remember these women after they had finished the book. Usually, I discount this kind of puffery, but much to my surprise, I did remember these characters! So, I hope the rest of the group enjoy it as much as I did. The Official Book this month was The Last Days of Dogtown by Anita Diamante. {I am not sure I am spelling the author’s name correctly but I am too lazy to get up and check.} I really liked this book. it seems to wander around from character to character with very little plot and yet it is fascinating. I also have to return The Time Traveler’s Wife to a group member and confess I honestly couldn’t get into it so didn’t finish it. She will be disappointed because she really hoped I would like it, but it just didn’t catch my attention.
Ok, I am off now to puzzle over the little Italian story I have written for homework. I am getting bogged down in dealing with prepositions! Oh, and apparently Italians say "oopla!" for Oops! Our instructor made an error on the last test and when she gave it back, she had written this in the margin by her mistake!
Until later….
Hello Patrisha, How lovely to have you back with us. Thanks for your advice – I think it is good and I am taking it.

oopla! LOL! I like that word. I like “puffery.” I like words that I don’t normally use that are exactly right for situations. British English has some good ones. You’ll do great on those exercises and get signed off next time!

I love how you and Fred have your finances…. if I ever get into a relationship again, I think that makes a lot of sense.
