Lasagna & Birthday Cake!

On Saturday I was sitting outside enjoying a bit of sunshine and waiting for Fred to come back from the grocery store. Our neighbor saw me there and brought her littlest baby over for me to see him. His name is Oliver and he was born at home in the early part of December. I had seen him before about a week after his birth when he was red and wrinkled  and now, three months later, he looked very different. He has quite a lot of thick black hair and looks a lot less like a little old man. Anyway, his mother asked if we liked lasagna and said she was making some on Sunday for her only daughter’s {3 boys and 1 girl  } eighth birthday. The daughter, Grace, explained to me that her real birthday was last week but she was at her father’s house then so they were having lasagna and cake this weekend for her. When I first moved into this street, Gracie was the baby we heard crying next door! So, yesterday evening, our evening meal was brought to us. First the lasagna and then Grace brought two BIG slices of birthday cake!

Yesterday I went for my fortnightly massage and today my left leg is really hurting. It wasn’t the massage that did this, however; it hurts because I was doing leg lifts the day before and I overdid it. The chore of the day is laundry and after I came back up from the basement a couple of minutes ago, I took a generic Aleve. That stuff is a really good painkiller but I can’t take it for too long a time since it tears up my stomach! But it will get me through the stuff that needs to be done today.

Next Saturday is our book club meeting so I guess it would be a good idea to read the book! It is The Things They Carried  by Tim O’Brien. I had to buy the book {second hand, of course} because it is not yet in a format for the Kindle. I have started it once or twice but can’t get deeply interested in it. I am pretty sure it will not go into the bookshelf to be read again but into the bag of books to be offered on Freecycle. Talking about Freecycle, it has moved from the yahoo groups to a different place and it was exceedingly complicated to get my name set up. Actually, I finally had to have the Freecycle email sent to my google email address and then have g-mail forward it to my freepoint address.

Today’s high is supposed to be 45 with rain, but tomorrow sunshine is in the forecast…

I read an excerpt from The Things They Carried that was pretty good. I’m still getting plenty of freecycle mail, but I haven’t tried posting since the changeover.

I’m jealous that you got to sit outside. Still cold and snowy here. Global warming, my eye!

I’m envious as well, it was back inside for me after being able to sit outside in February. I should have known it wouldn’t last.

I washed the winter blankets today. I am hoping that I will NOT need them. The wind is whipping around now… I expect it’ll die down soon.

Nice neighbors you have! You don’t often hear of girls being named Grace these days and it is such a pretty name. It was my mother’s name.:)

That’s a very nice surprise, to be brought lasagna and birthday cake! :o) !! Yesterday it was up in the 70s here and sunny, but today it’s very windy and downright chilly! hugs, Nicky

We used to do that for some of our neighbors. Take them extra cake or while baking brownies I would bundle some up for them. They usually return the favor which is just as appreciated. I hope you enjoyed. It’s nice to hear there are still some thoughtful people out there. She is a good neighbor.

oh, sorry about your leg – hope it feels better tomorrow. Still, lasagna and cake sounds wonderful. Yum.

I read that book for a literature class. There are so many hidden meanings in much of the book, which I never would have caught without my professor’s guidance. I remember enjoying it more after it was explained a bit to me. I love lasagna and cake! Both bad for me, but yummy for the tummy! LOL I’m glad you have such kind neighbors.

We had rain today, and a touch chilly. I loved the story about Gracie, how sweet! Robin Williams once mentioned that a newborn baby looked like a little old man dipped in 40-weight…

Nice to have that birthday dinner delivered to you!

I had no idea it changed on freecycle. Shows that I’m behind on emails 🙂 and that’s awesome that they invited you to her Birthday. And time flies…. the little guy is already 3.5 months old!

I hope that your leg feels better. I wish my mother were more stable on her feet and more active. I can’t wait for the nice weather. Have a wonderful day!
