Italian Lesson Day

Well, today is the day I am going to teach the fourth graders how to count in Italian.

I redid the sheet I am going to give them to include a little bit on telling the time but I won’t get into it too much since there are a few in the class who find it difficult in English.

I have also made myself a list of things I don’t want to forget  to talk about like being sure they know what a living language is and that living languages are in a constant state of change.

I keep jumping up and down to put things I don’t want to forget on the end of the table. So far I have the sheets I spoke about,  a container of scratch paper, my purse and car keys, my camera —hmmm writing that made me get up and get the recharged battery which also led me to getting the cell phone which was recharging, too!

I have the excited/scared butterflies in my stomach. They are more excited than scared! I have been a teacher for so many years that teaching even without the meticulous preparation I usually make really doesn’t scare me . I enjoy giving the occasional lesson like this but I am also glad I don’t have to do this every day for most of the year.

There are only two class days left. On Tuesday I will be telling my group in Italian what happened today, and then on Thursday I will be handing in my paper which will be in English. It will be a recounting of this lesson and my reflections on the process…

QUOTATION: If your ship doesn’t come in, swim out to it!
