Il Mio Progetto and Other Stuff

So, I got an email back from the teacher of third graders saying she would be delighted for me to teach her class how to say "My name is…" in Italian and could I come on Monday?

Ummm, that would be NEXT Monday? The Monday that comes after this upcoming weekend? {Here is inserted a short pause while I scream, panic and run around in circles!}

However, once I had gotten over the "She means NEXT Monday?" panic, I am ready to do it. I sent her email saying I would be there at 1:00pm and that the lesson would last between 30 and 45 minutes. I also asked her for a list of her students’ first names and if she would be willing to use my digital camera to take lots of pictures for my follow-up report. {Anna, another student in the italian class was going to come with me and take pictures but she had to drop the class because she got accepted at nursing school and it started immediately}

Then I sent an email to la prof telling her about all this and asking for directions to the school. So, we shall see.
 Today:

  • give the kitchen floor a good cleaning {this is done}
  • go for a walk {coming up next}
  • Look for last week’s grammar work and if I can’t find it, do it over
  • start on my raccontino about il mio nonni {My grandfather} This is the first raccontino we have done from scratch with no help in class.  In my case, it will be totally fictional {which is fine} because I never knew either of my grandfathers.

Until later….

Those kids will feel so important, being able to go home that day and tell their parents they can say something in Italian now! What a nice thing you are doing! hugs, Weesprite

yay for you, teaching a class for her!

You can also teach them that it’s impossible to speak Italian if you sit on your hands. The language is 25% gestures at least!

Well, we all know that the teaching part will be a breeze for you! It sounds like a lot of fun.

You didn’t know your grandfathers? For some reason I find that sad, don’t know why. One of mine died when my dad was little, but the other one lived until I was pregnant with my son. Wow, I just realized it’s been 29 years since he died. Time flies. The session with the bambinos should be fun. 🙂

Sounds like fun. 🙂 I’m not sure exactly what age a 3rd grader might be (other than very young). 7ish???

That’s exciting and a little scary, too! I’m sure you’ll do great. The children will probably be excited to have someone different in their classroom and their energy will transfer to you! I love third graders. They are still in love with school, most of them anyway, and they are not too sarcastic/jaded about life yet.

Oh how fun! Teaching little kids a new language!!!

wow, good for you! i admire how you work through your panic. pretty quickly, too, i might add.

You just make me feel so lazy. You are so together and do so much. 🙂 I think you’re going to love teaching a class again – for one day. The kids will love it, too.
