How the Day Went

I came home from physical therapy absolutely worn out. I started off with Leesha, the student, who has obviously been watching Leslie because she had me lie down on my right side, lift the left leg up with her help, and hold it up there while she chanted , "Keep the leg up, up, up!" I did it once only. However, I am please to report that lying on my left side, I can lift the non-operated leg up against gravity with no help AND keep it up for a few seconds, too!

The hardest thing I did today was to stand on a balancing board and shift my weight from right to left. Eventually Leslie had me do it in front of a mirror so I could actually SEE that I was using my right side to do all the work. I am not aware I am doing this until it is pointed out to me. I also rode the exercise bike for ten minutes and walked on the treadmill at 8/10th of a mile per hour! Ah, well, it may take a long time but eventually I WILL be walking properly.  When I got home and after lunch, I was so tired that I took an hour’s nap.

On Monday of next week,, Leslie said she will give me a sheet with exercises to do while I am away. Then on Wednesday, we can fine-tune it and make any necessary changes. Thursday will be the last physical therapy {in the pool} before  I leave for Italy on Saturday afternoon. of next week,

After physical therapy, I went downstairs to the drug store and checked on my blood pressure medication and was told that the insurance wouldn’t let me refill my prescription until some time in October. So, I went ahead and paid full price for two months worth which cost me all of $11. See why I always go for generics whenever possible?

The apartment smells delicious since Fred is frying bacon for the BLTs we are having for supper this evening…

Bacon is one of the few foods that tastes almost as good as it smells!

Wow, it’s hard to believe it’s that soon already to go to Italy! Those exercises sound like torture, but you’ll be fit as a fiddle soon. I’d say it’s pretty normal to try to protect the operated-on side. (((Hugs)))

You are doing good, hard work with your physical therapy. I think it really helps to look in a mirror, because then you can really see how you are compensating with the other leg. When my Dad had his stroke, he couldn’t use his right leg or right arm. I went with him to almost all of his physical, occupational, and speech therapies. He worked really hard to regain the use of his leg and arm. His speech is still a bit sketchy. Blessings to you!!! Mmmmmmm… bacon. =)

You are making excellent progress and maintaining a healthy attitude. …great to see that!

I know that they are terrible for me, but oh, a good BLT is a wonderful thing.

🙂 I’m a vegetarian but still LOOOOVE the smell of bacon. Congratulations on lifting your leg! you have been working hard – sounds like you probably have years of using your right side to help the other to correct, but I know your determination. You will get there!
