How My Mind Works

Yesterday I decided I wanted a meat loaf so I put all the ingredients together, preheated the toaster oven and put the pan in. Since I have never used a convection oven before, I have been setting the oven time about ten minutes earlier than the recipe calls for and taking another timer with me which is set for a few minutes before the toaster  oven timer is due to to cut off. So when the second timer went off, I went in to the kitchen and suddenly there was a pop sound and the toaster oven went off. Nothing I could do would restart it again and I finally mover the meat loaf over to the big oven, which, of course, heated up the kitchen! Well, I was waiting for the meatloaf to finish and doing a lot of sotto voce muttering about having to repack the damned thing and send it back when suddenly I realized what had happened. The kitchen has those plugs that can be reset by pressing a little switch between them. A couple of weeks ago, the washing machine did this and my landlord showed me how to restart it. So, I did this to the plug the toaster oven was plugged into, and voila! Everything came back to life! I am still fascinated by the way my mind works. If something goes wrong, and if I wander off and do something else, quite often the solution for the original error will pop right into my mind! And the meatloaf, which I finished today, was excellent I am glad to say.

Today I was supposed to go to lunch with Diane but she called yesterday and cancelled (with a good reason} and so I spent today piddling around starting different jobs and getting nothing finished! I also took a nap and got the dry clothes from the basement upstairs ready to put away. Of course since today seems to be my finish-nothing day, the clothes are still sitting in the basket. Well, at least I can’t say I have nothing to do tomorrow, right? In fact, I have a a number of jobs to be finished.

Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone. ~Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers)

You are not happy because you are well. You are well because you are

happy. You are not depressed because trouble has come to you, but

trouble has come to you because you are depressed. You can change

your thoughts and feelings, and then the outer things will come to

correspond, and indeed there is no other way of working.

I love how solutions sneak up on you like that!

My mind works (or doesn’t) the same way! When I try to think of an answer, it eludes me. The minute I stop concentrating on it, voila! I love the term ‘finish-nothing day’ 🙂

I have had quite a few FNDs this summer too. Enjoy them. The work will still be there tomorrow (or the day after that).

I’m glad you figured things out and got your meatloaf! Now, of course, *I* want meatloaf too! hugs, Nicky

If the meatloaf turns out, the day is a winner.

I do the same thing! I have a puzzle game on my phone and often times if I try a puzzle too many times I get stuck. But if I leave it alone for awhile, when I come back to it I often get it quickly. lol Go figure!

yeah, the more we try to push for an answer, the less likely is it to come to us. sounds like you had a good day. take care,

It’s fascinating isn’t it – almost like it won’t work if we concentrate on it too much and we have to leave it to our self-conscious to go to work instead!

I hate it when the oven heats up the entire house…except in the winter. Those types of plugs are a pain….unless you could burn the house down with the massive voltage.

I have a plug like that in the bathroom. It is a pain sometimes, especially when I am in the middle of drying my hair:)

You popped the circuit breaker. If we run the toaster and the microwave at the same time, the pesky thing trips almost every time and you have to flip the breaker on the wall to reset it. (huggles)

Glad the meat loaf turned out to be good 🙂
