Good News from the Bank

We got good news from the bank this morning. Fred and I share an account, the household account, to which we both contribute equally and when I looked at it on line the other day, there was a $67 dollar amount paid out to an account called “Papers4Less.” Well, I checked the card number it had been paid with and it was Fred’s card. {We each have a debit card for the account but the numbers are different.} He had no idea what it was for so I tracked them down on line and it is a site that buys papers from students and also sells papers on various subjects to students who are too lazy to do their own work.. Now, it is highly unlikely that either of us had bought $67 worth of papers plaigarizing someone else’s work, but obviously someone had. And they had used our household account debit card number,

I sent “Papers4Less” an email from their site—no reply. Fred called them–their telephone number appeared on our bank statement–no answer. So he immediately cancelled his card and is getting a new one with a different number. A bank official asked him to write a letter with all this information, sign it and turn it in to the bank. Today, much to our surprise, there was a letter from the bank provisionally crediting our account with the money! Obviously, someone is doing an investigation. {My guess is that it is one of the high school or college students working at the local supermarket which is pretty well the only place Fred uses the card since he does all the grocery shopping.} Meanwhile, Fred will use his personal account for grocery buying and transfer the money on line from the household account to his personal account. His new card should arrive in a day or so.

So far today I have:

been for a walk. I used my classical music walking CD which I have finally got around to transferring to the iPod and onto a playlist called “Walking.”
vaccumed the floor
washed and put away the dishes
cleaned off most of my stuff from the table. The small pile that remains is destined for a new home but just hasn’t got there yet.
put my art into my new portfolio which arrived today The new portfolio fits tidily behind the paper shredder at the side of my desk.
hung up all my winter coats which were decorating the various chairs. There are still some gloves and scarves to put away but I will do that when I finish my cup of tea and finish writing here.

I am debating whether or not to get in another walk when the tea is drunk. I think I may go on a mild meander with the camera. I don’t have much energy left but it is such a lovely day it is a shame to be in doors!

*random noter* It’s great that the bank gave back the money stolen from you!! And I must say, you look and sound very active and healthy, especially being 70!! You’re healthier than a lot of people my age. That’s very admirable 🙂

OMG, you’ve been a victim of credit card theft. Good that you cancelled it. There is soooo much going on right now its insane. And to have this happen when you use your card when you shop! That’s crazy!

So glad you got the money back. Which irritates you most, the money or the plagerism? Don’t you hope that some teacher/professor uses the site that checks papers for such and catches the stinker who did it?

Wow! Random Noter. Credit card theft really happens, I suppose. I live in such a bubble, sometimes. I use my credit card online… at stores everywhere, etc… and I never think it will really happen to *me*. I’m glad it’s all sorted out. 🙂

ryn: Yes – I think I was in the final generation of kids to have those family meals at school. It seems rather quaint as I look back upon it. 🙂
