*Getting Things Done*

EDIT: So, I went out this morning to clean snow off my car and discovered it wouldn’t start! This is the second time I have had this problem and I just can’t do with this. So, I called AAA {second time in three weeks} and bought a new battery. I had to pay full price instead of a prorated price which I would have had if I had waited for the Guy Up The Road {from whom I bought it }to come on Monday and mess around with it. Anyway, I have a doctor appointment on Monday {and on Tuesday for that matter} and although they are both routine, I really do not want to go through the hassle of rescheduling before I fly off to MS for Christmas.

  • We have more snow…
  • Just a reminder to myself that listening to the IPod even makes kitchen cleaning doable!
  • These days it is the unexpected little things that bring tears to my eyes. Fred and I had this joke that in our dotage we were reverting to teenagers in all the wrong ways since I developed rosacea and he had acne! I found a tube of his acne medication this morning…
  • After finishing this, I have first to sweep the snow off my car and then to go up to the drug store to get my blood pressure medication. I would have cleaned off the car anyway because I learned through hard experience what happens when I don’t do this chore every time it snows, but I am glad to be able to drive up and get my meds thus killing the proverbial two birds…
  • I went to bed at 8 pm last night and read until 10. I woke up at 9 o’clock this morning which means I slept for 11 hours. I had two nights of sleeping poorly before that so now I am caught up. I need to start going to bed at a regular earlier hour so I can get up earlier. I have more energy in the morning.
  • I go to the doctor tomorrow {Err, make that Monday} for the usual once-a-year checkup to confirm my meds are doing what they are supposed to be doing.
  • This morning I absently put on one sock and two shoes. I only realized what I had done when I looked back at the bed as I was leaving and saw one poor little abandoned sock…
  • The heated mattress pad is fantastic! When i get into bed, not only is the bottom sheet warm, but the top sheet that was resting on said bottom sheet is warm also so I get into a cocoon of warmth.
  • I don’t really mind going out into the cold to do things like cleaning snow off my car, but I am slightly irritated by the length of time it takes me to put on a scarf, a winter coat, a hat, warm gloves and waterproof gloves on top of them {so my hands don’t get cold and wet} and lip salve to prevent my lips cracking!

Fear not for the future, weep not for the past.

Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822) English Poet

Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.

– Oscar Wilde

Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone. ~Fred Rogers (Mr. Roger

I think if I had a heating pad in my bed I would leave the window open, because I do love the warmth of a heated bed, but I also love the cool breeze.

We don’t have doctors that do physicals on Sunday or even Saturday. It is just for walk in illness and only half a day. I find that odd that a doctors office is open on Saturday or Sunday b/c I’ve never heard of it before. I have a heated mattress pad also and love the feeling. I’ve always liked them better than electric blankets. When I would visit my kids in England I foundthe same thing you describe about getting dressed to go out in the cold. We walked the 15 minutes to town and very seldom used the car. Here in Texas my car is in the garage so not that cold and I am in and out so just throw on a coat and go but we don’t have a lot of real cold weather here. Actually it has been unusually warm, in the 80’s, only thing is it is drying and we need rain so badly. I used to listen to the radio a lot but don’t like the choice of stations and enjoy my ipod more but don’t use it much for music. You reminded me to turn it on when I’m cleaning the kitchen or something else to make the time pass faster.

That heated mattress pad sounds great! You might enjoy your new home after you move, for at least several reasons, one of them being it won’t be so cold in the winter!! hugs, Nicky

ryn: Then you gained a day! I get my days mixed up at times and I work which keeps me straight except every night I wish the next day was a weekend day. 🙂

Have you considered downloading books or pod-casts of your favorite programs to your iPod to listen to as you’re doing your housework? Having to get a new battery can be expensive! Thank goodness you have AAA to help you out with car problems.

Heated mattress pads are a godsend in winter, especially when you have cranky joints like mine. I understand about the moments that sneak up on you, it’s really quite horrible when it happens. For a long time I fretted over it, until I talked to my therapist, who told me that it was completely normal and part of the process.

yes, that’s the most difficult part of winter…. getting dressed to go out in it. i like summer… undies, bra, shirt, shorts and flipflops. it takes forever to get ready to go out in the winter. i’m best in the morning, too. i get so tired by 2:30 or 3:00. it’s the little things that will get you in the heart. i found a note raymond wrote about something he had ordered… got a lump in my throat. take care,

I am in love with my heated mattress pad, although we don’t have it on the bed right now, as we purchased a new mattress in the summer and added a pillowtop thing on it (it was an extra firm mattress) and I am not exactly sure I can put the heated mattress pad on top of it.
