Fun with Broken Pipes!
No, not in our apartment, but in the one above. The one the landlord moved out of and is fixing up for a new renter, who, incidentally, moves in tomorrow!
About 4 pm, I noticed there was a little water on the floor of my workroom. I figured it came from the water bottle I knocked over so I wiped the water up and went on with what I was doing. A bit later, I went into the hall and saw a bigger pool of water and this time noticed there was something soapy in it. And finally, I went into the bedroom and noticed quite a minor flood, water marks on the wall and some drooping ceiling tiles which made it quite obvious where the water was coming from!
Fortunately, I knew the landlord was upstairs because first, there had been some banging earlier and also his car was still outside, so I went to his door and and yelled up the stairs that there was water all over the floor in our apartment. He said, "Oh, sh*t!" Apparently, he had to do some pipe removing in the bathtub, which was blocked, in order to get a plumbers snake down the drain! Anyway, he came downstairs with a mop and borrowed my bucket and mopped it all up. He said he would put the ceiling tiles back up when they had dried out.
In the "news about Fred" category, Fred called me just before I was going to call him and asked me to bring him some clothes tomorrow when I visit. No, he is not walking out! He just prefers his own clothes and especially his own shoes! I had already sorted out a complete set including his shoes but he wanted me to bring three sets so he has something to change into. He said he didn’t want any sweatshirts, just T-shirts so I guess they keep the place pretty warm! I will be riding with his daughter and her husband tomorrow, and after that, I will take myself and Diane can take a break. She told me on the phone that she was feeling a bit dragged down by going every day.

I guess that saying about “It never rains, but it pours” is certainly true in your case!

Oh NO! But thankfully the landlord was close at hand!

I’m with Fred, I feel so much better just being dressed, and not in PJ’s. And wearing your own clothes just makes you feel “normal.”

RYN: Could have been a worse 3 I suppose! Not much mind you!

Oh dear – It’s not like that you needed that on top of everything else, but I’m glad your landlord was there and able to fix it relatively easily. Great news about Fred. And a good sign that he isn’t planning a secret walk-out, as he’s not asking for warm clothes. 🙂 Thinking of you both.

I’m sure glad the water was just on your floor and not on something really important like your bed or other furniture! :oO !! And very glad you did not have to do the mopping. :o) !! So Fred doesn’t want to keep going ’round in a little backless gown and slippers, huh? heehee! That’s a good sign! (Though I expect they had something a bit better than that for him to wear….still, one likes one’s own clothes best….) I hope you have a lovely day today! hugs, Nicky

I hope all is back to normal. I had the same thing happen to me last Spring. My ceiling is sheetrock so that all had to be replaced. It turned out that their shower drain was cracked. No I’m wondering how long my drain will last and when I’m going to end up forking out money to remain damages the the apartment below me. It was nice that you had someone who could fix it right away.
