Friday’s Stuff

Well, here it is Friday evening and some stuff got done. First, I slept very well last night which pleased me because sometimes when I am very tired, I sleep for only a short time. I went to sleep about 11:30 last night and got up at 8:30  this morning and no waking in the night.

I put ingredients into the bread machine this morning and then went out for a walk. After the third knead, I took out the paddle and left the bread to finish by itself while Fred and I went for groceries. AND HE DROVE! I don’t know if he checked in with any doctor to get permission to drive but he said he was going for groceries and asked me if I would go with him. He has this standard shift Subaru which he was just getting used to before the surgery., which was, let’s see, about seven weeks ago. Because it was such a long time ago since he had driven,  he was right back to doing all the things beginners do including some horrendous jack-rabbit jumps when he changed gears! I did my best and mostly succeeded in saying nothing but had to comment when his foot apparently hit the brake and the clutch at the same time! Anyway, we made it up and back to the grocery store and got the groceries safely up the stairs and put away.

I had good intentions about going for another walk but eventually decided I was too tired so I have spent the rest of the day doing nothing with a lot of pleasure.

Until later…

Oh, man! people who have never driven a stick shouldn’t be starting at his age! LOL! I’ve been driving a stick for so long, I’m constantly doing the left-foot brake thing when I drive an automatic. I’m pathetic.

Eek, eek, eek on the jackrabbit shifting. I would’ve been putting my ‘passenger clutch’ pedal to the floor.

Ah doing a lot of nothing with pleasure–have a great time doing so. 🙂

Good for you. I didn’t walk today because I got up to cold wet snow. I probably should have but I didn’t. I hope that you have a great night. Blessings.

Doing nothing is sometimes a rare pleasure. 🙂 – – – –

I’d never thought to take the paddle out of the bread machine while it cooks! What a clever idea.

I’m glad the trip was a success!

That’s a wee bit scary about the driving. I do know what you mean by the joy of not waking in the night. I love it when I can do that, as it does disorient me quite a bit when it happens. But having a cat who knows how to bite toes when he wants me to wake up doesn’t help either…

I can just imagine those jack-rabbit starts and hippety-hops. Those are part of the fun of driving a standard! Reminds me of a story from the Maine radio show “Bert and I,” in which a woman, Maggie, is driving her standard up the long hill in Wiscasset, as her husband sleeps in the camper she’s towing. She lets the clutch out too fast; he gets jolted out of bed and out the back door of the….

..camper, stark naked (since he WAS sleeping,’til all this happened…), leading to a whole series of madcap events which culminate in him being arrested and her having to come down to the jail-house to “get him sprung.” His first words to her when she arrives at the jail are, “next time, Maggie, LET THE CLUTCH OUT SLOW.” 🙂 Just had to share that! It’s great Fred’s on the road again! hugs,

Christopher Robin tells Winnie the Pooh how to do nothing and says, “When an adult asks you what you are going to do, you say ‘nothing’… and then go out and do it.” And, gee, it really is pleasurable. :o)

I love doing nothing. Good for you.

ryn: That’s a good idea, clarity without going OTT. 🙂

Horray for the good night’s sleep. Heard a blurb on TV the other day about people who listened to relaxation music just before going to sleep. It was very effective according to this article. I haven’t tried it yet. Reading usually puts me to sleep OK but it is staying asleep that is more of a problem.

ryn: You got it! You brought me here in the first place, and when I left, I lost touch with you. You’ve been an inspiration to me for years now, and I couldn’t bear not to know how you’re doing, so…I’m back.

I’m so happy that he is back to driving. I will be soooo glad when hubby feels strong enough to drive again. I’m so sick of it. Anyway, glad for Fred that he is doing so well. He’s been through a lot it seems, you both have, and it’s so nice to read that things are getting back to normal. It gives me hope. Take care.
