Friday Potpourri

I had a very restless night. Well, what can I expect when I sleep for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

Jean, the physical therapist, came and was very pleased with Fred’s progress. One thing he can do now that he couldn’t do last time she was here is get up from a seated position without using his arms to support himself. I remember when I had surgery for endometrial cancer and was at about the same stage of recovery Fred is and how chuffed I was with myself when I could do that! She supervised him on the treadmill for a very short time and we {Fred and Jean and me} agreed that I should supervise him getting off it because he got a bit dizzy this time. She has also added a few more exercises to the ones he is already doing. She told him that it was OK to take a day off if his legs were achey, but not more than one day.

The Schwann {frozen food} man came and delivered more good stuff including fudge sticks, lasagna, chicken pot pies and some new stuff, strawberry bars — that Fred wanted to try.

Fred called his kidney doctor and made an appointment for the end of the month, and then, later, to the surprise of us both, she called him back mostly to ask how he was doing.

I made another basic white loaf with the original recipe. The one I made substituting one cup of light wheat flour for one cup of bread flour was quite nice but not as good as the basic loaf.

I got a phone call from the children’s librarian at the library. I have been approved to be part of a reading project where an adult contracts to go to the school every Thursday, eat lunch with a 4th or 5th grader and then spend 30 minutes in a reading activity with the kid. One always has the same kid each week. I asked, if it was possible, to have a boy rather than a girl since I do not relate to girls at all. But if there is only a girl free, than that is what I will take! I should be starting next week. I have to be at the school by 11:45 because lunch starts at noon. I will bring my lunch and eat with the kid and then go into another area for the reading. It sounds interesting. Unless the weather is as horrible as it is today, I envision walking to and from the school being my walk on Thursdays. Anyway, there was one form I had to fill out and that M. had to turn in so I walked to the library to get that done. She told me she will call me before Thursday.

I had one of Schwanns lasagna’s for lunch {620 calories} and it was far too much. So, the next time, we have decided we will share it.

Until later…

Your school project sounds wonderful. I think if you get a girl, its because the “universe” wants you to relate to one. 🙂 (shrug) Thats how I think.

What a great school project! I love Schwanns! I most especially love their fudge sticks. And their beef tips in gravy. We have a man who comes at my office, and he was out of fudge sticks the last time. Oh, I also used to get the Triple Berry Blend. It’s a mix of blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. I love to munch on it, but the nutritionist suggested I cut my fruit intake.

The school project sounds really interesting and different. Hope you get a boy since it is what you prefer. Will be interesting to hear how it goes.

That sounds very exciting to go to the school. When my children were in elementary school I used to go a couple of days a week for about an hour and listen to the 1st graders read. It’s amazing how well they pick it up and I love to see the progress thru out the year. Enjoy!

That lunch program sounds neat! It will be some lucky kid. Do you have a good recipe for dinner rolls made with bread flour? I have a wheat recipe I like, but need a white one… xxx

I missed your posting. It sounds as if you’ve been busy. Good for you! If you take your lunch to school, will you share? School lunch is so dreary, maybe you can bring him a treat. Or get a tray of what he eats? Something to connect. Glad to hear your mate is healing well. I’m sure he’s ready to venture out some. It brings a sense of normalcy. Take care and stay warm.

Love the sound of your project. I would ask for a boy, too – because I DO relate to girls. Boys remain, in spite of (or because of) Hearts Sons, a delightful mystery.

The reading program sounds fun. That’s a good thing to do. It’s nice to help children get interested in learning. I’d love to know where you find all the energy though, not to mention the time. Take care.

That’s a wonderful thing, getting involved in a reading program. (Once a teacher, always a teacher.) This makes me wonder how you handled not being able to relate to girls when you taught in the classroom.

I used to eat a lot of Schwan’s stuff, Now I can’t afford it nor do I ever see the Schwan’s man

RYN: Wow! Outstanding!! You have done a terrific job by maintaning your weight.
