Fred Today

I went to see Fred around noon and after lunch he had physical therapy. I am always invited to go to watch so this time I went. He had told me that he had opted out of walking with a walker for the last few days and I was a bit perturbed about this. I don’t know if it was because I was there or not, but he did very well today. He was helped to stand up by two people, the physical therapist and another young lady and he walked from one end of the room to another three times with a short pause between each walk. He was supported all the way by one person holding on to the strap around his body and one holding his arm and he walked standing up straight with a tall walker. I was very impressed and afterwards he told me he was pleased with his progress!

Tomorrow is the meeting with his case worker, a couple of the physical therapists and his daughter and me… Apparently it will be about how he is doing and what we can expect. My joke is that he can’t come home until he can run up a flight of stairs! I am, of course, well  aware he will never do that again, but I don’t want him sent home before he can get around with a wheeled walker and before he feels safe doing so. If he doesn’t feel safe, he won’t move and he will be back in bed again and the progress he has made will all disappear!

I am feeling more energetic and positive today so i got some laundry done. The change in my energy level is due to the good night’s sleep I got last night…

I sympathize with Fred. But you are right; he can’t come home ’til he can get around on his own with his walker, because you certainly can’t carry him around! He’s too heavy for that! I’m glad he did so well….now he just has to keep on doing it! hugs, Nicky

that does sound like good progress for Fred. You are right however, if they send him home too soon he will slip back into old habits. Fingers crossed these efforts continue and he feels more confident too. hugs to you both P

That news is good. Progress is being made. Both of you are in my prayers.

It sounds like excellent progress for Fred. You have the right idea about him going home, of course. I wish him all the best!

Good wishes going over land and sea to you both.
