Fred & the Computers
- Fred has a prescription for pain that has codeine in it. Well, not only does it make him itch like crazy but he behaves in a very weird and "goofy" way! Since he is much better, he was told today that he could go back to the occasional naproxyn for pain after his blood test on Friday…
- We had what I thought was an interesting comment from the visiting nurse today. Apparently, she said, it will take exercising for three days for every day he has been in bed if he intends to ever be walking safely again! Which means at least 21 days of exercising…
- Relatives will descend on us this coming weekend. Fred has already told his daughters he is not up for much socializing…
- A very young-looking man came to look at our computers on Monday. First, he didn’t arrive at 10 am., the time of the appointment. At 10:15 I called and asked where he was only to be told they had no record of my call on Saturday to set up the visit. It was the old "oh, the temp didn’t write it down!" excuse! So, I was told that someone would be here "very soon." {They are situated just round the corner from us. } When he eventually arrived it was the same very young guy we had last time. Just like last time, I had an almost irresistible urge to ask him why wasn’t in school, but didn’t. I did tell him to speak up and speak more slowly at least one time! The problem with my Mac had fixed itself {of course} but he did show me what to do if it happened again. And, it happened again this morning, and I did it, and it worked!
- The other things I wanted him to do was to add two PCs to the network so that we could use the printer from all of them! Oh, and to set up our G-mail on both of them. I liked Windows 7 up to the part where I tried to get the PCs to use the printer and I tried setting up the mail. It will be interesting to look into the guts of Win 7 and see what he did. The only computer he couldn’t get to find the printer was the little Mac laptop! I had that one printing from the bedroom so when I get it back from Fred, I will experiment. {Fred got himself a PC but I need to fiddle with it so he can find the important places like Open Diary and Facebook easily! And then I will get my Mac book back.}

Oh poor Fred! That itching is unbearable when it happens — it could be that the codeine portion is too strong. I had it happen when I was hooked up to a morphine machine in hospital and moaning that the sheets were trying to strangle me. Glad to hear that the computers got fixed, funny how dependent we have become on them, isn’t it?

Since the codeine is causing the itching internally, I don’t know if it would work, but you could try mixing some lavender oil with olive oil and putting that on him to see if it helps. I can’t remember if you got lavender or not. I admire you SO MUCH when you talk about solving computer problems. I think you’re awesome!

Anytime I have taken medicine with codeine, all I did was sleep….but that’s lots better than itching! Poor Fred! I hope he will do the exercising he needs to do, so he can walk again. Yaaaaaaaaaaaay for the computer “boy” showing up and showing you how to get your computers running again! :o) !! hugs, Nicky
