Firefly and Other Stuff
Yesterday when I could raise my leg a little, I was, as regular readers know, delighted. But because it engaged muscles that hadn’t been used for a long time, the muscles in my leg really hurt yesterday. However, this morning, it feels very much better and is back to normal. But I did take one analgesic pill this morning in preparation for the one mile walk I will take later.
I spent a lot of time yesterday watching "Firefly." I LOVE that series and it is even more fun now I have learned to turn on closed captioning. I appreciate the throw-away comments much more. I still have disk four to watch and then I will rewatch "Serenity", the movie. I felt bad retreating to the bedroom to watch a DVD when we had company but my leg hurt so much that I really couldn’t concentrate on conversation.
Our company was Fred’s son-in-law and Fred’s grandson. I enjoyed talking to them a lot at the beginning of the evening before the pain kicked in so hard. It was also nice going out to a Chimese restaurant to eat but it all happened so late –about two hours after my normal eating time–that I ate far too much! However, it was far to much of something I like, a spicy fish dish!
I did get a couple of things done yesterday. I DID go to the medical supply store and bought a very jazzy purple folding cane. The whole thing, including tax was $35 but the sticker shock wasn’t huge because I had checked on line beforehand and had a ballpark figure in my mind. I also had my hair cut. It isn’t as short as I HAD been wearing it but it is a lot easier to manage now. After she cut it, she blew it dry into a "neat little boy" haircut. This morning I ruffled it around and had it stick up here and here and I like it much better. Maybe I will get a photograph of the cane and my new hairstyle later…
Tonight is the book club meeting. Our book was For My Daughters by Barbara Delinsky. Basically, all I can say about it is that it was an easy read. I knew well before the end how it was going to end and I didn’t find the characters very interesting. One of its themes was that people fall in love immediately they see each other. I don’t believe that. I have actually fallen in lust with someone the moment I met him, but I have too much common sense to think that could ever be a we’ll-be-together-forever feeling. Love that keeps people together, the kind of love Fred and I have, comes from first liking and respecting a person and having him reciprocate those feelings. The rest — in my opinion — comes later.
Going back to the book club, next month we are reading On the Black Hill by Bruce Chatwin. The following month is our choice of mystery and then December is my choice. I was thinking of suggesting any book by T. Jefferson Parker but he writes mysteries and we will have had that the previous month. I am half-thinking of The Secret. I have a love-hate relationship with that book. One minute I think it actually common sense and the next I am regarding it as a lot of hogwash! Anyway, I have got to come up with a title tonight so as to give them time to get the book. Most of the members borrow the book through interlibrary loans but I always buy mine second hand through Amazon sellers and then, at the end of the year, bag them up and offer them on Freecycle where they are snapped up avidly.

*does a happy dance for Firefly*

No, I don’t think that anybody can fall in love at first sight! How can you fall in love with somebody you don’t know? You can only be physically attracted! The purple can sounds interesting!

Oh man, I just gobbled up Firefly (and Serenity) when we got those.

Amazes me how many people found this little gem of a series way after it got canceled. I really wish they could have gone on a little longer.

I’m glad you enjoyed your dinner out even if you did eat too much! :o) !! About “The Secret”….all Wiccans I have heard mention it detest it and think it’s a lot of hogwash. To us it falls under the label “pseudo-spiritual bullpoop.” hugs, Weesprite

Found you on Random, loved the read! Check out the book Atonement by Ian McEwan, i’m sure and avid reader like yourself has already read it, but I wanted to try.

I just finished The Virgin of Small Plains, it’s a very good mystery/suspense book!

Well, you know how I feel about The Secret, but I’ve got to say that it sure is hard to live like that 24/7! More work than going to the gym! LOL! I’ll bet it’s a lively discussion, though.

I read Barbara Delinsky when I want a little “fluff”… Yeah, I know it’s sort of trash by some people’s standards, but sometimes I just need to be amused. Purple, huh? Cool!! Yes, please post a shot of you and it and the new “Do”…. Love to you! ~M

Muahahaha. I resisted Firefly for so long, but since have turned on at least seven or eight people to the joys of it. The Chinese swearing cracks me up.
