Eyes and Freckles…
This morning I went bikeriding. I was originally going to make this a long ride, one where I go to Lake Champlain and ride the path that goes by the lake. However, even though I got up so early {5:30 am} by the time I got around to getting the biking stuff together, it was almost 11 am and I had lost the impetus to go to the lake.
However, I did the round-the-neighborhood ride and it was short but very pleasant. Before I left, I spent about 15 minutes talking to A, who lives next door to me with her husband C. They are a mixed race couple and have produced two gorgeous children, Mitchell, who is two and the baby, Grace who is about seven months.
Mitchell is at that wonderful age when language explodes. One day the kid has 5 words in his vocabulary and the next day there are suddenly 60! This morning he greeted me with “Herro!” which is his newest one. He made a valiant attempt at my name, which is a three-syllable one but it was very garbled. A. says Mitchell is very adventurous these days as I can attest from seeing her the other day chasing him around the very big yard we share with her. Mitchell was totally naked and screaming with laughter as he ran away from his mother all over the yard!
He is a very pretty child, golden brown, big brown eyes and slightly curly brown hair. Grace hasn’t developed much more than just the baby features but she has the prettiest huge violet eyes. I hope she keeps them that color. I have two friends who both have brown eyes and their four-year old daughter has huge and intensely dark blue eyes. We all thought they would change as she got older, but they didn’t and she is four now.
I was thrilled to see that my younger son had red hair and green eyes {like my mother} when he was little. The hair darkened to a reddish brown but he still has the green eyes. As for me, I have ordinary dark hair, washed-out gray eyes, and the white-and-freckled skin of a redhead. But I am happy to see that my gray hair is actually coming in silver. To think that once I spent a lot of money to put streaks in my hair which I now get free from Mother Nature!
